Cleveland Monsters News Release
CEDAR PARK, TX - In the third of four meetings between the two teams this season, Cleveland's Lake Erie Monsters were defeated by the Texas Stars in overtime on Saturday at Cedar Park Center in Cedar Park, TX by a final score of 4-3. With the overtime loss, the Monsters are now 26-16-5-3 and with a .600 points percentage, remain alone in third place in the AHL's Central Division standings.
The Monsters claimed a 1-0 lead on Saturday when T.J. Tynan's fourth goal of the season, a power-play score assisted by Sonny Milano and John Ramage, beat Texas goaltender Maxime Lagace at 14:55 of the opening period. The second period's lone goal came courtesy of Lake Erie's Jaime Sifers at 7:22, an even-strength tally set up by Daniel Zaar and Michael Chaput that made it 2-0 Monsters.
In the third, the Stars got on the board at 1:43 thanks to a Julius Honka power-play goal before Lukas Sedlak crashed the net to make it 3-1 Monsters at 6:31 with Michael Paliotta and Oliver Bjorkstrand collecting assists on the play. Texas rattled off two more goals in regulation though, from Brett Ritchie at even-strength at 9:09 and Esa Lindell while shorthanded at 12:36, to force overtime. In the extra session, Stars center Jason Dickinson notched a game-winning wrap-around marker at 3:34 to deliver the Stars a 4-3 victory.
After a 31-save showing, Monsters goaltender Brad Thiessen's record currently sits at 8-2-3, while Lagace improved to 13-4-0 in net for the Stars by virtue of a 33-save performance.
Next up for the Monsters, it's a Sunday rematch vs. the Stars with full coverage, live from Cedar Park Center, underway at 6:00 pm on ESPN 850 WKNR and the Monsters Hockey Network.
