February 27, 2016 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Cleveland Monsters News Release
CLEVELAND - In front their fourth-largest home crowd of the season, Cleveland's Lake Erie Monsters defeated the Rockford IceHogs in overtime on Saturday by a final score of 3-2. With the win, the Monsters' third in three nights at The Q, Lake Erie improved to 30-17-5-4 overall this season and with a .616 points percentage, remain alone in third place in the AHL's Central Division standings and became the fastest team in franchise history to reach to 30-win mark.
The Monsters grabbed a 1-0 lead at 11:51 of the opening period when Josh Anderson notched a shorthanded breakaway tally to make it 1-0 with Michael Chaput supplying the lone assist on the play. In the second, Rockford tied the game at 4:51 when Mark McNeill potted a one-time crank at even-strength before Oliver Bjorkstrand put Lake Erie on top by a 2-1 margin with a power-play strike at 9:43, assisted by Steve Eminger and Chaput.
Rockford again leveled the score at 9:36 of the final frame on an even-strength Ryan Hartman tally that forced overtime, but with time winding down in the three-on-three extra session, leading Lake Erie goal scorer Daniel Zaar scalded home his team-leading 15th of the season on feeds from T.J. Tynan and John Ramage to deliver the Monsters a 3-2 victory and cap a perfect three-in-three weekend in downtown Cleveland.
Anton Forsberg improved to 15-8-3 this season in net for Lake Erie by virtue of a 26-save performance while Mac Carruth took the loss between the pipes for Rockford for the second consecutive night despite stopping 35 of the 38 pucks he faced.
Next up for the Monsters, it's a Tuesday home clash vs. the Milwaukee Admirals with full coverage, live from The Q, underway at 7:00 pm on ESPN 850 WKNR and the Monsters Hockey Network.
