Monsters Cap Perfect Weekend with 3-2 OT Win

CLEVELAND - In front their fourth-largest home crowd of the season, Cleveland's Lake Erie Monsters defeated the Rockford IceHogs in overtime on Saturday by a final score of 3-2. With the win, the Monsters' third in three nights at The Q, Lake Erie improved to 30-17-5-4 overall this season and with a .616 points percentage, remain alone in third place in the AHL's Central Division standings and became the fastest team in franchise history to reach to 30-win mark.

The Monsters grabbed a 1-0 lead at 11:51 of the opening period when Josh Anderson notched a shorthanded breakaway tally to make it 1-0 with Michael Chaput supplying the lone assist on the play. In the second, Rockford tied the game at 4:51 when Mark McNeill potted a one-time crank at even-strength before Oliver Bjorkstrand put Lake Erie on top by a 2-1 margin with a power-play strike at 9:43, assisted by Steve Eminger and Chaput.

Rockford again leveled the score at 9:36 of the final frame on an even-strength Ryan Hartman tally that forced overtime, but with time winding down in the three-on-three extra session, leading Lake Erie goal scorer Daniel Zaar scalded home his team-leading 15th of the season on feeds from T.J. Tynan and John Ramage to deliver the Monsters a 3-2 victory and cap a perfect three-in-three weekend in downtown Cleveland.

Anton Forsberg improved to 15-8-3 this season in net for Lake Erie by virtue of a 26-save performance while Mac Carruth took the loss between the pipes for Rockford for the second consecutive night despite stopping 35 of the 38 pucks he faced.
