Monger's Triple Leads Tornadoes Past Boulders, 10-6

July 1, 2011 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
Worcester Tornadoes News Release

Cam Monger hit a two-run triple in the bottom of the eighth to give the Tornadoes an 8-6 lead in a game they won 10-6 at Havoner Insurance Park at Fitton Field on Friday night. Albert Ayala picked up his first win of the season (1-3), and Rick Asadoorian pitched a scoreless ninth in the victory for Worcester.

The Tornadoes scored eight runs over their final three innings at the plate (the 6th, 7th and 8th), finishing a comeback from four runs down. They trailed by four at two separate points in the game, 4-0 after the top of the second and 6-2 after the top of the fifth.

Chris Colabello had his second-straight four-hit night, knocking in a run in each of his final three trips to the plate (a single in the 6th, a groundout in the 7th and a single in the 8th). Nick Salotti hit his team-leading 8th homerun of the season in the second, getting the Tornadoes on the board for the first time.

The win for the Tornadoes breaks a streak of nine straight games they alternated between wins and losses, and gave them 10+ runs in each of their three wins against the Boulders. Each starter got a no decision, as Nick Serino made a spot start for Worcester (allowing four runs in four innings) and Casey Hodges had his second-straight one-earned-run-allowed outing (giving up two runs in five-plus innings).

Alex Nunez extended his hitting streak to 16 games, while Colabello and Mark Minicozzi each made their hitting streaks 13-gamers. Tony Patane and Ryan Crespi (who scored the tying run) each have five-game hitting streaks after the victory.

Alex Trezza scored the winning run for Worcester and ended his night 1-for-3 at the plate (with two walks and two strikeouts before his infield single to lead off the 8th).
