Pittsfield Colonials News Release
NEWARK, NJ - The Newark Bears jumped to a 3-0 lead and never looked back as they defeated the Pittsfield Colonials 8-2.
Newark would get on the board first in the second inning as Billy Alvino singled home Pat Biserta. In the third, Tim Raines, Jr. brought home Ryan Walsh with a single of his own to put the Bears up 2-0. A third run would come in during the fourth as a throwing error allowed Biserta to score after he had doubled to lead off the inning.
The Colonials came back with two runs in the top of the sixth on a bases loaded walk by Scott Knazek and a sac fly from Quentin Davis to score Angel Molina and Johnny Welch respectively to cut the lead to 3-2.
The Bears rallied in the bottom of the inning as three unearned runs as Pittsfield committed two errors that lead to the Newark offense. The Bears would cap the scoring on a two-run homer by Juan Martinez in the eighth.
