Can-Am League Game Recaps

July 1, 2011 - Canadian American League (Can-Am) News Release

Newark 8, Pittsfield 2

Newark SS Juan Martinez's eighth-inning home run pushed the final two runs across the plate Friday night, giving his Bears club an 8-2 win over the Colonials of Pittsfield. Martinez went 3-for-4 with a run and three RBI. His teammate, LF Pat Biserta, also went 3-for-4, scoring three runs, including the game's first in the second inning. Newark never lost its lead, and it's six-run final advantage was the largest of the night. Bears starting pitcher Eric Eden allowed five hits in as many innings, walking two and striking out three Colonials batters to earn his third win of the season. Colonials 1B Angel Molina tied for the game-high in hits, going 3-for-4 and scoring one of Pittsfield's two runs.

New Jersey 4, Quebec 1

New Jersey SS Mike DeJesus hit for three-quarters of a cycle Friday, needing only a home run to complete the feat, and his club never trailed in its 4-1 victory against Quebec. But where DeJesus fell short, Jackals 1B Kris Sanchez filled in, knocking in a two-run homer to get the scoring started in the second. It was Sanchez' only hit of the night. After an impressive 7.2 innings of one-run baseball by starter Isaac Pavlik, the Jackals bullpen finished off the Capitales, giving up just a hit in the final 1.1 frames, giving Pavlik his seventh win in eight starts. Pavlik, who earned Pitcher of the Month honors for June, is yet to lose a game this season. The Capitales' only run came in the fourth inning on a Rene Leveret single that brought in Sebastien Boucher from third.

Worcester 10, Rockland 6

The Tornadoes fell behind 4-0 early and trailed 6-2 after five frames. But the home club wasn't discouraged and brought eight runs across the plate in the sixth, seventh and eighth to take an impressive, 10-6 victory. Worcester 1B Chris Colabello drove in three runs, one in each of Worcester's final three offensive innings, and went 4-for-6 on the night. Rockland RF Tommy Giles scored once and batted in two to highlight a 2-for-4 night. Worcester reliever Albert Ayala earned the win, allowing one hit and striking out one Boulders batter in one inning of work.

New York 7, Brockton 7 (In progress - Top 12)

The Federals and Rox are tied at 7-7 in the top of the 11th. Brockton's Chris Valencia has come through with two two-out hits in the late innings, a game-tying two-run double in the eighth and a contest-preserving single in the 10th. Jacob Fabry singled in two runs in the top of the 11th to put New York on top, 7-5. But Brockton answered with two in the bottom of the frame to keep the contest going. The game has been scoreless since.
