FC Dallas News Release
FRISCO, Texas (Friday, March 28, 2014) - The new 120-acre, 19-field soccer complex at Elm Fork in Dallas will be named MoneyGram Soccer Park, FC Dallas announced today.
"We love the ability to support the local and regional soccer communities," said Pete Ohser, MoneyGram's executive vice president for the U.S. and Canada. "This is a great opportunity to support the City of Dallas and our soccer playing customers, as well as expand our relationship with FC Dallas."
FC Dallas will operate the facility, located west of I-35 E near Walnut Lane. With 14 full-size fields and five junior fields, the tournament-grade facility will play host to multiple annual events, kicking off with the 2014 Dr Pepper Dallas Cup April 13-20. MoneyGram Soccer Park will also host King Tut presented by Toyota, U90C Super Copa, C2C Lacrosse, Primetime Sports and a variety of camps and clinics.
"We are very excited about the opportunity to partner with the City of Dallas and MoneyGram on this fantastic facility," said FC Dallas President Dan Hunt. "Our family has been passionate about growing soccer in North Texas for more than 40 years. To have another first class soccer facility in North Texas is a nice addition to the FC Dallas portfolio. We look forward to growing the sport we love in conjunction with the City of Dallas and MoneyGram."
A partner of Major League Soccer's FC Dallas since 2012, MoneyGram has also joined the City of Dallas-driven Elm Fork project as a long-term partner. The MoneyGram Soccer Park is projected to host one million visitors annually.
"Any occasion we have to touch the local communities we serve is an opportunity that's hard to pass up," said Hal Gronfein, MoneyGram's vice president of marketing for the U.S. and Canada. "The international nature of our business and the worldwide appeal of soccer makes this a great partnership."
As homage to its international ties, MoneyGram has named each of the 19 tournament-grade fields at the Park after a select country. The company, which does business with 200 countries worldwide, chose a sample of names representative of many of the local Dallas residents' countries of origin.
FC Dallas and the City of Dallas entered into a management agreement for MoneyGram Soccer Park on Oct. 23, 2013. Under the agreement, FC Dallas will manage, operate and maintain the facility on behalf of the City of Dallas to host local, regional and international tournaments, league play, clinics and various sporting activities.
"We are delighted to be a member of this great partnership," said Willis Winters, director of the Dallas Park and Recreation Department. "To have a premier soccer facility that will attract national and global soccer teams and fans is a tribute to the vision of our city leaders and citizens. The collaboration of MoneyGram, FC Dallas, and the City of Dallas in bringing this magnificent and exciting facility to reality will have long reaching positive influences for our city's economic vibrancy. Our department is excited to offer citizens and visitors a first-class recreational facility for them to enjoy for years to come."
