LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS

@ Portland (12/14): The Manchester Monarchs fell to the Portland Pirates, 4-2, in game five of the VIP Cup series, presented by VIP Parts, Tires & Service, at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee on Friday night. The Pirates lead the series 3-2. The Monarchs received goals from left wings Dwight King and Tanner Pearson. Right wing Chris Brown, defenseman David Rundblad, right wing Brett Hextall, defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson scored for the Pirates. Monarchs goaltender Martin Jones (7-11-1) took his 11th loss of the season stopping 24-of-27 shots. Pirates netminder Chad Johnson (9-5-0) earned his ninth win of the season making 27 saves on 29 shots. Manchester went 0-for-1 on the power play. Portland was 0-for-5 with the man advantage.

@ Adirondack (12/15): The Manchester Monarchs scored two third period goals to defeat the Adirondack Phantoms, 3-2, at the Glens Falls Civic Center on Saturday night. Left wing Tanner Pearson, center Linden Vey and defenseman Slava Voynov scored for the Monarchs. The Phantoms scored goals from right wing Mike Testwuide and left wing Tyler Brown. Monarchs netminder Peter Mannino (5-2-0) earned his fifth victory of the season stopping 32-of-34 shots. Phantoms goaltender Cal Heeter (3-8-0) took his eighth loss of the season making 33 saves on 36 shots. Manchester went 0-for-3 on the power play. Adirondack was 1-for-2 with the man advantage.

vs. Springfield (12/16): The Manchester Monarchs hosted their annual Teddy Bear Toss and had thousands of stuffed animals rain down on the ice after defenseman Thomas Hickey scored before they fell in a shootout to the Springfield Falcons, 3-2, at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Sunday afternoon. Right wing Brandon Kozun also scored for the Monarchs. Right wing Cam Atkinson and left wing Jonathan Audy-Marchessault scored for the Falcons. Atkinson and center Nick Drazenovic scored in the shoot out for the Falcons. Monarchs goaltender Martin Jones (7-11-2) took his second shootout loss of the season stopping 25-of-27 shots in regulation and 1-of-3 shootout attempts. Falcons netminder Curtis McElhinney (14-3-2) earned his 14th win of the season and saving 32 out of 34 shots regulation and 4-of-4 shootout attempts. Manchester went 0-for-4 on the power play. Springfield was 1-for-5 with the man advantage.

MONARCHS NEWS & NOTES

The Portland Pirates (15-10-1-1) sit in first place in the Atlantic Division with 32 points. The Providence Bruins (14-9-0-2) are in second place in division with 30 points. The Worcester Sharks (13-10-1-2) rank third in the division with 29 points. The Manchester Monarchs (12-11-2-2) sit in fourth place in the division with 28 points. The St. John's IceCaps (13-14-0-1) are in fifth place in the division with 27 points.

The Monarchs are 6-4-0-1 on the road and are 6-7-2-1 at home this season.

Manchester is 8-1-0-0 overall when they play on a Saturday this season.

Manchester set a franchise single game record with nine goals in a 9-2 victory against the Connecticut Whale on Saturday, December 8.

The Monarchs had 14 skaters record at least one point in a 9-2 record breaking victory on Saturday, December 8, including nine multiple point skaters.

The Monarchs scored a five-on-three power play goal in last Sunday's 3-2 loss to the Sharks. The power play goal ended a six game power play goal drought that started after the Monarchs had tied a season-high record with three power play goal in a single against the Springfield Falcons on Saturday, November 24. Earlier this season, Manchester scored three power play goals against the IceCaps on Wednesday, November 7.

Right wing Brandon Kozun (8-14=22) leads the team in assists with 14 and points with 21.

Kozun is second on the team with eight goals scored.

Kozun tallied two goals and an assist in the Monarchs 9-2 victory over the Whale on Saturday, December 8.

Kozun leads the team with three game-winning goals this season which rank tied for sixth place in the American Hockey League.

Kozun tallied the game-winning goals against the Sharks on Saturday, October 27, against the Binghamton Senators on Sunday, October 28 and the IceCaps on Wednesday, November 7.

Right wing Tyler Toffoli (10-9=19) is tied with center Linden Vey (7-12=19) for second place on the team with 19 points each.

Toffoli leads the team, is tied for third place in the AHL among rookies league with 10 goals this season.

Toffoli's 19 points rank seventh in the league among rookie skaters.

Toffoli had a five-game point streak (6-2=8) snapped in a 4-0 loss to the Pirates on Sunday, December 2.

Vey is second on the team with 12 assists.

Vey is third on the team with seven goals this season.

Vey appeared in his 100th AHL game (all with the Monarchs) on Saturday, December 15 against the Adirondack Phantoms.

Vey tallied two goals in his first multi-goal game of the season in a 9-2 victory on Saturday, December 8.

Center Andrei Loktionov (5-11=16) is in fourth place on the team with 16 points.

Loktionov leads the team and is tied for second in the AHL with two shorthanded goals this season.

Left wing Tanner Pearson (6-9=15) is in fifth place on the Monarchs with 15 points.

Pearson had a four-game point streak (1-3=4) snapped in a 4-0 loss to the Pirates on Sunday, December 2.

Pearson has six points (2-4=6) in his last six games.

Defenseman Slava Voynov (6-8=14) ranks sixth on the Monarchs with 14 points.

Voynov's seven goals lead team defensemen.

Voynov leads the team with 83 shots on goal this season.

Left wing Dwight King (4-9=13) ranks seventh on the Monarchs with 13 points.

King has four points (2-3=5) in his last five games.

King is tied for the league lead with two shorthanded assists this season.

Defenseman Andrew Bodnarchuk (3-9=12) is in eighth place on the Monarchs with 12 points.

Bodnarchuk is tied with Toffoli for the team lead in plus/minus with a plus-10 rating each which also ranks tied for 15th in the AHL. Bodnarchuk leads team defensemen with nine assists this season.

Defenseman Jake Muzzin (1-8=9) is tied with defenseman Thomas Hickey (2-7=9) for ninth place on the Monarchs with nine points each.

Hickey scored his first goal of the season in a 3-2 loss to the Sharks on Sunday, December 9.

Hickey's second goal of the season came during the Monarchs annual Teddy Bear Toss game on Sunday, December 16. The goal sparked thousands of stuffed animals to be tossed onto the ice fan in attendance.

Right wing Stefan Legein (1-7=8), and defenseman Nick Deslauriers (2-6=8) are tied for 11th place on the Monarchs with eight points each.

Legein had a three-game assist and point streak (0-3=3) snapped in a 3-2 loss to the Sharks on Sunday, December 9.

Deslauriers scored a goal in consecutive games for the first time in his professional career with tallies on Friday, November 23 against the Sharks and Saturday, November 24 against the Falcons.

Left wing Marc-Andre Cliche (3-4=7) is in 13th place on the Monarchs with seven points.

Cliche ranks second on the Monarchs all-time games played list with 310.

Cliche has scored 61 goals in his career with the Monarchs ranking ninth on the franchise's all-time list.

Cliche ranks ninth on the Monarchs all-time points list with 138 and ranks 10th on the franchise's all-time assist list with 77.

Defenseman David Kolomatis (3-3=6) and left wing Richard Clune (2-4=6) are tied for 14th place on the Monarchs with six points each.

All three of Kolomatis' goals this season have come when the team was on a power play. Kolomatis is tied with Toffoli and Pearson for the team lead with three power play goals each.

Clune leads the team with 73 penalty minutes.

Clune's 765 penalty minutes rank second on the Monarchs all-time career penalty minutes list.

Center Andy Andreoff (3-2=5) is tied with left wing Jordan Nolan (2-3=5) for 16th place on the Monarchs with five points each.

Defenseman Bryan Rodney (2-2=4) is in 17th place on the Monarchs with four points.

Rodney made his Monarchs debut on Friday, December 7 scoring two goals in the game.

Rodney recorded his second multi-point game with two assists in a 3-2 loss to the Sharks on Sunday, December 9.

Right wing Brian O'Neill (1-2=3), center Jordan Weal (1-2=3) and defenseman Andrew Campbell (0-3=3) are tied for 18th place on the Monarchs with three points each.

O'Neill has three points (1-2=3) in his last five games.

Weal scored his first professional goal in a 5-4 loss against the Falcons on Friday, November 30.

Campbell returned from an upper body injury on Friday, December 8 in Providence. Campbell had been out of the line-up since Sunday October 28 missing 16 games.

Campbell's 309 games rank third all-time on the Monarchs most games played list.

Center Robbie Czarnik (2-0=2) ranks 21st on the Monarchs with two points each.

Czarnik recorded his second goal of the season against the Falcons in a 5-4 loss on Friday, November 30.

Right wing Justin Johnson (0-0=0) made his season debut against the Bruins on Friday, November 16. Left wing David Meckler (0-0=0) made his season debut against the Sharks on Sunday, November 4.

Meckler holds the franchise record for games played with 352 in a Monarchs uniform. Meckler's 350th game came against the Pirates on Sunday, November 25.

Goaltender Martin Jones (7-11-2) has a 2.46 goals-against-average, a 0.917 save percentage and stopping 539-of-588 shots attempts in 20 games this season.

Jones' 0.917 save percentage and 2.46 goals-against-average is tied for 14th place and ranks 15th in the league, respectively.

Jones appeared in 100th start in a Monarchs uniform in a 3-2 shootout loss against the Falcons on Sunday, December 16.

Goaltender Peter Mannino (5-2-0) has a 2.07 goal-against-average and a 0.929 save percentage in nine games this season.
