LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS

vs. Portland (2/7): The Manchester Monarchs saw their three-game winning streak come to an end with a 4-2 defeat at the hands of the Portland Pirates at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Tuesday night. The Monarchs tallied goals from center Justin Azevedo and defenseman Patrick Mullen. The Pirates registered goals from defenseman Tyler Eckford, right wing Brett Hextall, defenseman Michael Stone and center Ethan Werek. Monarchs goaltender Jeff Zatkoff (14-9-1) took his ninth loss of the season stopping 21-of-25 shots. Pirates netminder Justin Pogge (11-8-3) earned his 11th win of the season making 34 saves on 36 shots. Manchester went 0-for-7 on the power play. Portland was 0-for-4 with the man advantage.

@ Worcester (2/10): Right wing Stefan Legein tallied a power play goal and a shorthanded tally to lead the Manchester Monarchs over the Worcester Sharks, 3-1, at the DCU Center on Friday night. The Monarchs also recorded a goal from right wing Brandon Kozun. Right wing Jack Combs scored the loan goal for the Sharks. Monarchs goaltender Jeff Zatkoff (15-9-1) earned his 15th victory of the season stopping 17-of-18 shots. Sharks netminder Harri Sateri (10-8-0) took his eighth loss of the season making 25 saves on 28 shots. Manchester went 1-for-7 on the power play. Worcester was 1-for-6 with the man advantage.

vs. Connecticut (2/11): The Manchester Monarchs came up short as the Connecticut Whale skated away with the 4-1 win in the second annual Pink In The Rink game at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Saturday night. Center Robbie Czarnik scored the lone goal for the Monarchs. Connecticut scored goals from center Jonathan Audy-Marchessault, center Kris Newbury, right wing Andreas Thuresson and center Casey Wellman. Monarchs netminder Martin Jones (13-13-1) took his 13th loss of the season stopping 36-of-40 shots. Whale goaltender Chad Johnson (15-9-5) earned his 15th win of the season making 26 saves on 27 shots. Manchester went 0-for-4 on the power play. Connecticut was 1-for-3 with the man advantage.

@ Springfield (2/12): The Manchester Monarchs ended their four-game road winning-streak with a 5-1 defeat to the Springfield Falcons at the MassMutual Center on Sunday afternoon. The Monarchs lone goal came off the stick of center Robbie Czarmik. The Falcons registered goals from right wing Cam Atkinson, left wing Matt Calvert, left wing Alexandre Giroux, center Andrew Joudrey and left wing Wade MacLeod. Monarchs goaltender Jeff Zatkoff (15-10-1) took his 10th loss of the season stopping 20-of-25 shots. Pirates netminder Paul Dainton (6-3-0) earned his sixth win of the season making 24 saves on 25 shots. Manchester went 1-for-6 on the power play. Springfield was 0-for-4 with the man advantage.

MONARCHS NEWS & NOTES

The Manchester Monarchs (28-23-0-2) are ranked second in the Atlantic Division with 58 points. The St. John's IceCaps (32-12-5-1) are in first place in the division with 70 points. The Worcester Sharks (23-15-4-5) rank third in the division with 55 points. The Portland Pirates (23-21-3-3) and the Providence Bruins (23-22-3-3) are tied for fourth place in the division with 52 points each.

At the Verizon Wireless Arena this season, Manchester owns a 15-11-0-1 record.

The Monarchs had a four-game road winning-streak end on Sunday against the Springfield Falcons, a 5-1 defeat.

This season, the Monarchs are 19-5-0-2 in games that have been decided by one goal.

Manchester is 17-12-0-2 against Atlantic Division teams this season.

Manchester is 16-3-0-2 in games when they have led after the first period and 16-0-0-1 when leading after the second period.

When scoring first this season, the Monarchs are 21-6-0-2.

Manchester's 944 penalty minutes rank fourth in the league this season. The team is averaging 17.8 penalty minutes a game which is tied for sixth in the league.

The Monarchs have been outshot in 34 of their 53 games and own an 18-15-0-1 record in those games.

Center Marc-Andre Cliche (16-18=34) leads the team with 16 goals and 34 points.

Cliche's five game-winning goals lead the team and are tied for tied for fifth most in the league.

Going a perfect 6-for-6 in the shootout, Cliche ranks first on the team and is tied for the best percentage in the AHL. Cliche's six shootout tallies are the most by any player in the AHL this season.

Cliche is ranked second on the team with a plus-9 rating.

Cliche has 11 points (5-6=11) in his last nine games.

Cliche ranks eighth on the Monarchs all-time games played list with 263 games and is tied for eighth place on the Monarchs all-time goals scored list with 57 tallies.

Right wing Brandon Kozun (13-17=30) is ranked second on the Monarchs with 30 points and is tied for second on the team with right wing Linden Vey (13-16=29) with 13 goals each.

Kozun is tied for 10th in the AHL with five first goals of the game.

Kozun's five power play tallies lead the team.

Vey is tied for third place on the Monarchs with left wing Dwight King (11-18=29) is 29 points each.

Vey has seven points (2-5=7) in his last six games for the Monarchs.

King was recalled by the Los Angeles Kings on Friday, February 10 and made his season debut against the New York Islanders on Saturday. King scored his first NHL goal in a 4-2 victory against the Dallas Stars on Sunday, February 12.

King has recorded two points (1-1=2) in eight career NHL contests with both points coming on Sunday.

Defenseman Patrick Mullen (7-21=28) is fifth on the Monarchs with 25 points.

Mullen leads Monarchs defensemen with seven goals, 21 assists and 28 points this season.

Mullen's 21 assists rank first on the team.

Center Justin Azevedo (10-13=23) is ranked fifth on the Monarchs with 23 points.

Azevedo is tied for seventh place on the Monarchs all-time assist list (84) and is ranked eighth on the Monarchs all-time points list (138).

Right wing Jordan Nolan (9-13=22) is ranked seventh on the Monarchs with 22 points.

Nolan's 119 penalty minutes rank third with the Monarchs and is tied for 11th in the league.

Nolan was recalled by the Kings on Friday, February 10. Nolan made his NHL debut today against the Islanders on Saturday, February 11.

Nolan scored his first professional goal in a 4-2 victory against the Stars on Sunday, February 12. The tally was also the game-winning goal.

Defenseman Thomas Hickey (2-16=18) is tied with King and Cliche for second place on the Monarchs with 18 assists each.

Hickey leads the Monarchs with a plus/minus rating of plus-13. Hickey was named to the Eastern Conference Team at the 2012 AHL All-Star Classic in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The 2012 AHL All-Star Skills Competition was Sunday, January 29 which resulted in an 18-10 Western Conference victory. The Western Conference topped the Eastern Conference, 8-7 in a shootout, in the 2012 AHL All-Star Classic game on Monday, January 30.

Center Robbie Czarnik (7-10=17) is tied with defenseman Jake Muzzin (4-13=17) for ninth on the Monarchs in scoring with 17 points each.

Czarnik has seven points (3-4=7) in his last six games played.

Defenseman David Kolomatis (4-11=15) is ranked 11th on the Monarchs with 15 points.

Center Andrei Loktionov (3-11=14) and defenseman Andrew Campbell (2-12=14) are tied for 12th place on the Monarchs with 14 points each.

Loktionov was recalled by Los Angeles on Monday, November 14 and has recorded six points (2-4=6) and two penalty minutes in 35 games this season.

In 55 career games with the Kings, Loktionov has 13 points (6-7=13) and four penalty minutes.

Campbell ranks third on the Monarchs all-time games played list with 275 and has appeared in all 53 games for the Monarchs this season.

Left wing Richard Clune (4-4=8) leads the team and is fifth in the AHL with 143 penalty minutes.

Right wing Justin Johnson (1-2=3) is tied with defenseman Slava Voynov (2-1=3) with three points each.

Johnson is second on the team and is ninth in the AHL with 128 penalty minutes.

Voynov was returned to Manchester on Friday, February 10. Voynov was recalled to the Kings on November 15. In 33 games with Los Angeles this season, Voynov has 11 points (4-7=11) and eight penalty minutes.

Center Paul Crowder (0-0=0) made his Monarchs debut in a 3-1 victory against the Sharks on Friday, February 10.

Goaltender Martin Jones owns a 13-13-1 record, a 2.88 goals-against-average and a .911 save percentage in 29 games for the Monarchs.

Monarchs netminder Jeff Zatkoff has registered a record of 15-10-1, a 2.29 goals-against-average and a .925 save percentage in 30 games.

Zatkoff's .925 save percentage is ranked fourth in the league and his 2.29 goals-against-average is fifth best in the AHL.

Zatkoff's 3-1 shootout record is tied for sixth in the AHL.

Zatkoff was named to the Eastern Conference Team at the 2012 AHL All-Star Classic in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The 2012 AHL All-Star Skills Competition was Sunday, January 29 which resulted in an 18-10 Western Conference victory. The Western Conference topped the Eastern Conference, 8-7 in a shootout, in the 2012 AHL All-Star Classic game on Monday, January 30.

Zatkoff made 17 saves on 20 shots during the second period of the 2012 AHL All-Star Classic game.
