Providence Bruins News Release
Boston, MA - Boston Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli announced today that the club has recalled forward Josh Hennessy from the Providence Bruins. Hennessy is expected to join the Bruins for Tuesday's morning skate, held at the TD Garden at 10:30 a.m. and for Tuesday's home game against the New York Rangers at 7:00 p.m.
Hennessy, 27, has skated in 49 contests for Providence this season and registered a team-high 15 goals and 15 assists. His 30 points rank second on the P-Bruins.
This marks Hennessy's first recall to Boston. He played last season with HC Lugano in Switzerland where he had nine goals and 19 points in 36 games, tying for fourth place in the club's scoring race.
The Rockland, MA native was originally drafted by the San Jose Sharks in the second round (43rd overall) of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. After spending time in the San Jose, Chicago and Ottawa organizations, he was signed by Boston as a free agent on July 5, 2011.
The 6'0", 198-pound forward's last NHL game was played with the Ottawa Senators on December 21, 2009 against Boston. In 20 career NHL games - all with Ottawa - he has one goal, which was scored on January 7, 2007 in Ottawa's contest against Philadelphia.
A native of Rockland, MA, the 27-year-old Hennessy played one season of high school hockey at Milton Academy before going to the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League for four seasons before he was drafted.
The P-Bruins are back in action with three games next weekend. The club opens the weekend at The Dunk on Friday versus the Hershey Bears, who sit in second place in the East Division. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. for Rally Towel Night. Rally Towels, courtesy of Cool Air Creations and Benjamin Moore, are free to the first 2,000 fans. The team is on the road in Springfield on Saturday. The P-Bruins close out the week at The Dunk on Sunday in a 4:05 p.m. match up with the Connecticut Whale for MetLife Plush Snoopy Night, which are free to the first 1,000 fans.
