LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS
At Portland (4/16): The Manchester Monarchs take the first game in the best-of-seven 2010 Calder Cup Atlantic Division Series against the Portland Pirates, 2-1, at the Cumberland County Civic Center on Friday night. Right wing John Zeiler and left wing Bud Holloway scored for the Monarchs. Left wing Derek Whitmore tallied the lone goal for the Pirates. Monarchs goaltender Jonathan Bernier (1-0) earned his first playoff victory stopping 22-of-23 shots. Pirates netminder J.P. Lamoureux (0-1) took his first playoff loss of the season with 28 saves. Manchester went 1-for-3 on the power play. Portland was also 1-for-3 with the man advantage.
At Portland (4/17): The Manchester Monarchs will return to New Hampshire with a two game lead in the best-of-seven 2010 Calder Cup Atlantic Division Semifinal Series against the Portland Pirates after a 3-1 victory in game two at the Cumberland County Civic Center on Saturday night. Center Corey Elkins, left wing Bud Holloway and right wing Trevor Lewis recorded goals for the Monarchs. Left wing Derek Whitmore collected his second goal of the playoffs for Portland. Monarchs goaltender Jonathan Bernier (2-0) earned his second playoff victory stopping 22-of-23 shots. Pirates netminder J.P. Lamoureux (0-2) took his second playoff loss of the season with 34 saves. Manchester went 0-for-5 on the power play. Portland was also 1-for-5 with the man advantage.
NEWS & NOTES
The Manchester Monarchs (2-0) have jumped out to a 2-0 lead over the Portland Pirates (0-2) in the 2010 Calder Cup Atlantic Division Semifinal Series B with a 2-1 win on Friday night and a 3-1 victory on Saturday night, both games being won at the Cumberland County Civic Center.
Also in the Atlantic Division, the Worcester Sharks (2-1) lead the Lowell Devils (1-2) two games to one in the best-of-seven series.
During the regular season, the Monarchs were the underdogs with a record of 3-4-0-3 against the Pirates.

The Monarchs return to the Verizon Wireless Arena for game three on Monday, April 19 with a two game advantage on the Pirates. Manchester has been up 2-0 in a playoff series only one other time in franchise history when they took a 3-0 lead over Worcester in the 2007 Calder Cup Atlantic Division Semifinals before finishing them off in double overtime in game six.
Manchester has outshot the Pirates in both playoff games for a total of 67 shots to 46 shots.
Left wing Bud Holloway (2-0=2) lead the Monarchs in goals scored in the playoff with two tallies, both game-winners.
Holloway is the only player in the AHL with two game-winning goals in the playoffs.
Holloway, center Justin Azevedo (0-2=2), defenseman Andrew Campbell (0-2=2), center Corey Elkins (1-1=2) and center Gabe Gauthier (0-2=2) share the team's scoring lead with two points each.
Campbell and defenseman Jacob Muzzin (0-1=1) join defenseman Mark Ardelan, center Marty Murray and center Patrick O'Sullivan among Monarchs players who have registered a plus/minus of plus-3 in a single game. Campbell and Muzzin picked up plus-3 ratings in the Monarchs 3-1 win over the Pirates on Saturday night.
Goaltender Jonathan Bernier is a perfect 2-0 between the pipes this post-season. His 1.00 goals-against-average is tied for second place in the AHL and his .957 save percentage ranks fourth.
