Hershey Bears News Release
The HERSHEY BEARS Hockey Club looks to advance to the 2010 East Division Finals this Wednesday night, facing the Bridgeport Sound Tigers in Game 5 of a best-of-seven Calder Cup playoff series.
HERSHEY rallied to win Game 1 4-3 in overtime this past Wednesday behind Andrew Joudrey's game winner, and also won Game 2 at Giant Center by a 3-2 final. The BEARS then scored six times in the second period Saturday in Game 3, posting a convincing 7-2 win at the Arena at Harbor Yard. Down 3-0 in the series, Bridgeport would force the series to a Game 5 with a 4-1 win Sunday in Game 4. Defenseman Andrew MacDonald was named the game's number one star Sunday, scoring two goals.
Tickets for the next two Calder Cup playoff games at Giant Center are on sale now at the Giant Center box office or by calling (717) 534-3911.
Another record broken: The BEARS scored six times in the second period Saturday night in Game 3 of the East Division Semi-Finals against Bridgeport. The six goals scored is the most ever scored by HERSHEY in a single period of a Calder Cup playoff game. The previous record of five goals in a period was set on April 22, 1998 against the Kentucky Throughblades at Rupp Arena.
Not missing a beat: Left wing Alexandre Giroux has stormed into the 2010 Calder Cup playoffs, scoring five goals in his first four games this postseason. Giroux, who scored 50 in the regular season, scored 15 goals in the 2009 Calder Cup playoffs to help HERSHEY win the Cup last spring. Dating back to the beginning of the 2008-09 season, Giroux has now scored 130 goals regular season and playoffs combined.
Practice schedule: The BEARS will practice Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at Giant Center in preparations for Game 5 of the East Division Semi-Finals Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m.
Neuvirth back in goal: After missing chunks of the second half of the regular season due to injury, goaltender Michal Neuvirth returned to action this past Friday in Game 2 of the East Division Semi-Finals. Neuvirth won Games 2 and 3 of the series, his first two postseason victories since winning all 16 postseason games in 2009 when he was named Calder Cup MVP.
Elsewhere around the AHL: The Albany River Rats stand one win away from advancing to the 2010 East Division Finals after defeating the Wilkes- Barre/Scranton Penguins 2-1 Sunday at Mohegan Sun Arena. Albany, who leads the series three games to none, would face either HERSHEY or Bridgeport in the division final .
