Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Milwaukee, WI - Chicago Wolves goalie Peter Mannino returned to his game two form as he blanked the Milwaukee Admirals 1-0 Monday night at the Bradley Center. The victory gives Chicago a 3-1 lead in the West Division Semifinals.
Mannino turned away 29 shots for his second shutout of the series, besting Milwaukee net minder Mark Dekanich who denied 24 of the 25 shots sent his way and was coming off a shutout of his own in game three.
A fast-paced, hard hitting first period saw multiple scoring chances for each team, but neither squad was able to get past either goaltender. Each team failed to convert on a power play opportunity as Chicago outshot Milwaukee 14-9 in the opening frame.
The teams remained deadlocked until Chicago's Spencer Machacek registered the game's lone goal with six minutes to play in the 2nd period. The forward skated out of the near corner and fired a no-look, backhander past a screened Dekanich for an unassisted tally.
With the Wolves clinging to a one goal lead they played a tight, defensive style to close the game, limiting the scoring chances on both sides. After failing to generate many opportunities for most of the 3rd period, the Admirals pulled Dekanich with 1:19 to play, but were never able to pose a significant threat. Milwaukee outshot Chicago 7-4 in the final frame and 29-25 overall, but were unable to solve Mannino.
The Admirals' power play, which converted four times in Saturday's game three win, was held scoreless on four attempts.
The Admirals look to stay alive in the series when the two teams return to the ice on Wednesday night at the All-State Arena at 7:00 pm. Admiral fans who cannot make it down to Chicago can watch the game live at Major Goolsby's in downtown Milwaukee.
