Manitoba Moose News Release

After losing games 1 and 2 in the North Division Semi-Final, the Manitoba Moose came back to MTS Centre and offered up a blowout whooping for 7,546 fans as they faced the Bulldogs in game three of the 2010 playoff series. Manitoba took 24 shots on net and mustered 7 goals against Hamilton, while the Bulldogs took 36 shots on Cory Schneider but only hit the mesh twice. Schneider played 60 minutes and made 34 saves.

The Manitoba Moose opened up the scoring for the first time in the North Division Semi-Final series against the Hamilton Bulldogs. At 12:04 Jordan Schroeder snagged his first of the playoff season, one-timing a cross-ice pass from Guillaume Desbiens to beat Cedrick Desjardins on his glove-hand side.

Schroeder didn't stop there; almost two-and-a-half minutes later he struck again, putting Yan Stastny's rebound in the top of the net. Both of Schroeder's goals were scored on the powerplay; Hamilton's Aaron Palushaj received a two minute penalty for tripping at 10:33 while teammate Frederic St. Denis went to the box at 13:04 for holding.

The Moose headed into the second period short-handed; Lawrence Nycholat received a two minute penalty for roughing at 19:18; and with a 2-0 lead; the first time Manitoba has had the lead during the series.

Nycholat's penalty expired with no consequences to Manitoba; shortly after, Dan Sexton stepped up to the plate to claim his second goal of the 2010 playoff season by tipping Tom Galvin's shot from the blue line, making it 3-0 Moose.

Manitoba continued their hot streak. Schroeder claiming a hat trick early in the game; at 2:43, 41 seconds after Sexton's goal making it 4-0 Moose. The Bulldogs switched net minders afterward; Robert Mayer took over between the pipes for Desjardins, who played 22 minutes and faced eight shots.

However, the Bulldogs weren't about to let Manitoba's goals go unanswered. At 2:59 Chad Anderson put one past Schneider, the pass coming from Dany Masse; and Ryan White scored on the powerplay at 8:51, the pass coming from Andre Benoit - Manitoba's Travis Ramsey had received a two minute penalty for cross-checking a minute prior.

Heading into the third the Moose had a two goal lead (4-2) over the Bulldogs, and a man advantage; David Desjardins received a two minute penalty for holding at 18:59.

In the third, the Bulldogs killed off what was left of Desjardin's penalty without the Moose capitalizing on the man advantage.

With less than 17 minutes in the period, Schneider made a huge save against the Bulldogs; he went sliding across his crease to save a rebound shot from going in the empty net, keeping Manitoba's 4-2 lead secured.

Minutes later, at 3:58, Guillaume would skate down the ice and score a shorthanded goal, skating around a Hamilton defensemen and deking around Mayer, to put the Moose ahead 5-2. The goal was Guillaume's first of the playoff season, but it was his fourth point of the game (1g & 3a). Teammate Kevin Clark was serving a bench minor penalty for too many men when the goal was scored.

The Moose weren't finished scoring either - they had ground to make up for. At 14:52 Stastny beat Mayer's glove hand on the powerplay to give Manitoba the four goal lead; Hamilton's White received a two minute penalty at 13:06 for high sticking.

With less than five minutes to go in the third, there was a scuffle at the offensive blue line. Guillaume grabbed Bulldog's Andrew Conboy and threw him to the ground, taking a few swings at him. As a result, Hamilton's Shawn Belle, Conboy, and Mike Glumac received penalties as well as Manitoba's Desbiens, Matt Pope, and Sergei Shirokov.

At 16:38, Manitoba struck Hamilton where it hurts the most - on the score board. Marco Rosa blasted one past Mayer from the bottom of the circle on the power play, the pass coming from Nycholat, 7-2 Manitoba.

And with the final minutes of the period winding down, the Manitoba Moose decided to end their first home game of the 2010 playoffs with a bang. With less than three minutes left in the period Manitoba's Aaron Volpatti responded to a hit received in the defensive zone by Bulldog's White. The two players dropped the gloves in front of Schneider; the fight ended with Volpatti taking White to the ground.

Manitoba was able to re-gain ground after losing two straight games on the road and coughing up a 2-0 series lead to the Bulldogs. After tonight's win the series sits at 1-2 in Hamilton's favour.

The Moose take on the Bulldogs at MTS Centre on Wednesday, April 21 in game four of the North Division Semi-Final.
