LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS
At Norfolk (10/9): Goaltender Jonathan Bernier (2-0-0) stopped 41 shots to backstop the Manchester Monarchs to a 2-1 victory over the Norfolk Admirals at the Norfolk Scope on Friday night. Defenseman Drew Bagnall and center Oscar Moller scored for the Monarchs. Right wing Brandon Bochenski tallied the lone goal for Norfolk. Admirals' goaltender Riku Helenius (0-1-0) took the loss with 21 saves. Manchester went 0-for-4 on the power play. Norfolk was 0-for-7 with the man advantage.
At Norfolk (10/10): The Manchester Monarchs held the Norfolk Admirals at bay until the third period when right wing Brandon Bochenski found the back of the net and set the hometown team sailing away with a 2-0 victory at the Norfolk Scope on Saturday night. The Monarchs' first loss of the 2009-10 season came at the hands of Admirals goaltender Dustin Tokarski (1-1-0) who stopped all 26 shots he faced in the contest. Center Ryan Craig added an empty-net goal to the scoreboard for the Admirals. Monarchs' netminder Jeff Zatkoff (0-1-0) took the loss with 37 saves on 38 shots. Manchester went 0-for-5 on the power play. Norfolk was 0-for-4 with the man advantage.
At Hershey (10/11): Goaltender Jonathan Bernier backstopped the Manchester Monarchs to a 2-1 win over the Hershey Bears at the Giant Center on Sunday night. Right wing Brandon Segal and center Oscar Moller lit the lamp for the Monarchs. Left wing Alexandre Giroux scored the lone goal for the Bears. Bernier (3-0-0) earned his third win of the season with 34 saves. Bears netminder Braden Holtby (2-1-0) took his first loss of the season stopping 26 shots. Manchester went 0-for-3 on the power play. Hershey was 0-for-6 with the man advantage.
MONARCHS NEWS & NOTES
Manchester is 4-4 in Home Openers at the Verizon Wireless Arena. The Monarchs open the 2009-10 season on home ice on Saturday, October 17.

Manchester (3-1-0-0) is ranked second in the Atlantic Division with six points after four games this season. The only team beating them in the division rankings is the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (4-0-0-0) who are undefeated with four consecutive victories that have earned them eight points.
The Monarchs took their first and only loss of the season on Saturday against Norfolk, shutout 2-0. The last time the Monarchs were shutout was a 2-0 game against the Hamilton Bulldogs with goaltender Cedrick Desjardins in net on December 19, 2008. Saturday's 2-0 shutout is the 30th time the Monarchs have been shutout in team history
The Monarchs victory over the Hershey Bears on Sunday is only their third win in team history at the Giant Center; the last win in Hershey came on March 30, 2008 with a final score of 5-2.
The Monarchs also handed Hershey their first loss of the season on Sunday night.
Right wing Scott Parse leads the Monarchs with five points, all assists.
Parse's five assists are tied for second overall in the AHL for assist leaders.
Center Andrei Loktionov (3-1=4) scored a hat trick and added an assist in the season opener against the Albany River Rats on Saturday, October 3 to become the first player in Monarchs history to collect three goals and four points in his professional debut in a Monarchs uniform.
Loktionov also became the 18th player in team history to score a hat trick and the 25th player to collect four points (three goals, one assist) in a game.
The rookie center is for fifth place in the AHL among goal scorers with three tallies on the season.
Loktionov leads the Monarchs in goals (three) and plus/minus (plus-6).
Center Oscar Moller (2-2=4) scored two game-winning goals over the weekend. He scored his first goal of the season in Friday's 2-1 win over Norfolk and his second game-winner in Sunday's 2-1 win over Hershey.
Moller's two game-winning goals are tied with San Antonio defenseman Sean Sullivan for the league's lead.
Defenseman Drew Bagnall ended his scoreless streak of 102 games with a goal on Friday in the Monarchs 2-1 win over the Norfolk Admirals. His last and only other goal in a Monarchs uniform came on February 1, 2008 against Portland and it was scored shorthanded and into an empty net.
Bagnall (1-3=4) is also tied for second place with Loktionov and Moller in scoring on the Monarchs with four points each.
Right wing Brandon Segal has scored the first goal of the game twice in the four games the Monarchs have played this season, the 6-3 opening win in Albany on October 3 and Sunday's 2-1 win over Hershey.
Goaltender Jonathan Bernier is the only goaltender in the AHL to have an undefeated record of 3-0-0 record.
Bernier is ranked 13th in the league with a 1.67 goals-against-average and is tied for eighth place with a .957 save percentage.
Goaltender Jeff Zatkoff's all-time record in a Monarchs uniform drops to 1-3-0 in four games over the last two seasons.
MONARCHS PROMOTIONS
Max & Cheese Food Drive - The Monarchs have partnered with Shaw's and AutoFair to accumulate the largest known collection of macaroni and cheese in the state of New Hampshire. Fans are asked to bring in boxes of macaroni and cheese to the Monarchs Home Opener on Saturday, October 17 when the team takes on the Portland Pirates. Fans can use the boxes as noisemakers during the game and then donate them to the New Hampshire Food Bank following final buzzer. The Monarchs Care Foundation will also have boxes on the concourse for donations.
Magnetic Schedule Night - The first 5,000 fans attending the Monarchs Home Opener against the Portland Pirates on Saturday, October 17, at the Verizon Wireless Arena will receive a Monarchs 2009-10 magnetic schedule, courtesy of Ray The Mover.

Richie Ladd Memorial Golf Tournament Postponed - Due to inclement weather, the Richie Ladd Memorial Golf Tournament was postponed to Tuesday, October 20, 2009. You can still join the 2009-10 Monarchs players and personnel at the Richie Ladd Memorial Golf Tournament at Candia Woods Golf Links. The tournament benefits the Monarchs Care Foundation and gives fans the opportunity to meet the team. Each foursome will be paired with a member of the 2009-10 Monarchs team.
