
Moose Sweep Wolves In Week 2

Manitoba Moose News Release
The Manitoba Moose swept the Chicago Wolves in Week 2 with a 4-1 victory on Friday night followed by a 2-1 win on Saturday. The Moose are now on their first winning streak of the 2009-10 season and hold a 3-1-0-0 record heading into Week 3. Michael Grabner netted three goals against the Wolves with new addition Sergei Shirokov earning three points (1g & 2a) in his opening week as a Moose.
Friday, October 9, 2009: Manitoba 4, Chicago 1
The Manitoba Moose won the first game of their four-game season series against the Chicago Wolves by a 4-1 tally on Friday night at MTS Centre. Michael Funk and Sergei Shirokov both scored their first goals as Moose, while Michael Grabner notched his first two of the season. Goaltender Cory Schneider was nearly flawless stopping 23 of 24 shots .
Saturday, October 11, 2009: Manitoba 2, Chicago 1
The Manitoba Moose sacrificed the first goal of the night, but scored two consecutive markers to sweep the Chicago Wolves with a 2-1 score on Saturday night at MTS Centre. Mike Keane and Michael Grabner both scored their third goals of the season while goaltender Daren Machesney stopped 30 attempts in his Moose debut. The Moose are now on their first winning streak of the 2009-10 season.

SWEEPING & STREAKING:
After splitting their opening weekend with the Houston Aeros, Manitoba won two consecutive games over Chicago putting them on a two-game winning streak heading into tonight's contest. Last season, the Moose won their third and fourth games of the season and went on to win the next seven. The club's all-time record for longest winning streak currently sits at 10 games and has occured twice.
IMPACT PLAYERS:
Both Mike Keane and Michael Grabner scored their third goals of the season on Saturday night and as a result share the spot for leading goal-scorer on the squad. Heading into tonight, Grabner is on a two-goal streak, registering three in his last two games. New addition Sergei Shirokov is also on a two-game points streak, registering both a goal and two assists in his two games with the club. Marco Rosa is the only player on the team that has registered a point in every game this season. Heading into tonight's match-up, he is on a four game streak and sits atop the leaderboard with five points (2g & 3a).
AN IMPRESSIVE DEBUT:
Daren Machesney made his debut as a Moose in Saturday's victory and set aside 30 of 31 attempts for his first victory of the season as well as first star honors. The 23 year old netminder spent the last three seasons with the Hershey Bears where he accumulated a 44-25-4 record. Machesney was originally drafted in the fifth round, 143rd overall, by the Washington Capitals in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.
Upcoming Opponents
For the first time-ever, the Manitoba Moose will face off against the expansion Abbotsford Heat in a weeknight double-header starting tonight at MTS Centre. Manitoba will face their new North Division rival eight times in the 2009-10 regular season. The Moose faced Calgary's new AHL affiliate in a two-game preseason tournament in September and were swept by the new club in Abbotsford, B.C. (5-2L & 6-4L). Last season, the Moose posted a 3-1-0-0 record against Calgary's former affiliate, the Quad City Flames.
