Cornelison To Sign Anthem Friday, Hogs Release Flinn

Rockford, Ill. - Renowned singer Jim Cornelison will perform the "Star Spangled Banner" as a part of the 2009-10 Opening Night Festivities on Friday, the Rockford IceHogs announced.

The IceHogs take on I-90 rivals, the Chicago Wolves, at 7:05 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 16 at the Rockford MetroCentre to kick off the home portion of the American Hockey League team's 2009-10 schedule.

Cornelison, known for his electrifying renditions of the "Star Spangled Banner," has opened Chicago Blackhawks home games for more than ten years, including last season's Winter Classic at Wrigley Field.

Additionally, the first 5,000 fans through the doors of the MetroCentre on Friday will get a 2009-2010 IceHogs wall calendar, courtesy of Maverick Media and 23 WIFR, and a set of Bam Bam Sticks, thanks to Dental Dimensions and U.S. Cellular.

Opening Weekend continues on Saturday, Oct. 17 when the IceHogs take on the Peoria Rivermen at 7:05 p.m. at the MetroCentre. The first 5,000 fans through the doors will collect an IceHogs 2009-2010 magnet schedule, courtesy of Dental Dimensions, U.S. Cellular, WTVO Channel 17, WNTA 1330AM and Guerilla Graffix.

Winger appeared in two games for Rockford

Rockford, Ill.- Chicago Blackhawks General Manager of Minor League Affiliations Mark Bernard announced Wednesday that Left Wing Ryan Flinn has been released from his Professional Try-Out Agreement.

Flinn, 29, appeared in two games for the IceHogs racking up nine penalty minutes.

The Halifax, Nova Scotia native was selected #143 overall (round 5) of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft by the New Jersey Devils. He skated in 52 games with the Hamilton Bulldogs in 2008-09, notching two goals, two assists and 122 penalty minutes. In 297 career AHL games, Flinn has collected 30 points (13g-17a) and 945 PIMs.

Next Home Game: Friday, Oct. 16 vs. Chicago Wolves. Game time is 7:05 p.m. After five-straight road tilts to open the 2009-10 regular season the IceHogs return home to face the Wolves. The first 5,000 fans to the game will pick up an IceHogs wall calendar from Maverick Media and 23 WIFR.
