Monarchs Sign Matt Fornataro

MANCHESTER, N.H. - Manchester Monarchs Head Coach, Rich Seeley, announced today that forward, Matt Fornataro, has signed a contract with the organization.

Fornataro, 30, most recently played for the Graz 99ers in Austria, playing in 43 games, recording 26 points on 10 goals and 16 assists. Since the beginning of the 2012-13 season, Fornataro has played in Sweden, playing in 145 games, scoring 90 points on 31 goals and 59 assists.

Before heading to Europe, the 6-foot-0, 190-pound forward played in parts of five seasons with the Worcester Sharks, Houston Aeros, Norfolk Admirals and Rockford IceHogs of the AHL, and the Phoenix Roadrunners and South Carolina Stingrays of the ECHL. Fornataro played in 237 career AHL games, scoring 120 points on 47 goals and 73 assists.

A former captain of the University of New Hampshire ('08), Fornataro played 156 games as a Wildcat, scoring 118 points on 44 goals and 84 assists, scoring 40+ points in his last two seasons in Durham. While on campus, Fornataro was named to the NCAA All-American Second Team (2008), All-New England Team (2008) and was a Hockey East Honorable Mention (2007).

Fornataro and the Monarchs are back in action Sunday, February 14 (3 p.m.) when they host the Wheeling Nailers for the first time in franchise history at the Verizon Wireless Arena.
