Kalamazoo Wings News Release

CINCINNATI, OH - Led by Zach Budish's two goal, four point night, the Cincinnati Cyclones dashed past the Kalamazoo Wings, 4-1, at U.S Bank Arena on Wednesday night.

Gaining momentum from extended power play time, the Cyclones jumped out to a 1-0 lead, just past the midway point of the first period. Budish flew into the offensive zone and snapped a wrister to the short side, over the glove of Joel Martin, and into the top corner.

Early in the second frame, Kalamazoo responded with a tally of their own. Tanner Sorenson skated to the crease of the Cyclones and brushed one towards the goal, creating havoc in front, allowing Justin Kovacs to find the loose puck, glove it down to his stick, and pop it into the net for his fourth of the season.

Regaining their one goal lead midway through the second period, the Cyclones made it a 2-1 game on a tally from Andrew Blazek. The Cincinnati defenseman took a cross-ice feed at the left point, and ripped a slap shot over the glove of Martin, who was screened on the play.

Given their second extended five-on-three power play opportunity of the game, the Cyclones pushed their lead to 3-1, early in the final stanza. Garrett Noonan fed a backdoor feed to Budish, who lifted the puck into the open net. Prior to the goal, the Wings had successfully killed off 13-straight penalties.

Popping in an empty net tally, Noonan capped the scoring for the night, to give the Cyclones the 4-1 victory.

Next: Kalamazoo heads to Evansville to take on the Icemen at the Ford Center on Friday, February 12, with faceoff scheduled for 8:15 p.m. EST.

Notes: The Cyclones went 1/8 on the power play, while Kalamazoo went 0/2. Andy Iles stopped 22 of the 23 shots he faced. The season-series concluded with both teams winning two games, with the home team winning every contest. Alex Mallet has points in six straight games.
