Cameron Scores, Oilers Prevail with 2-1 Overtime Win

TULSA, OK - Brett Cameron scored his 14th goal of the season and Vitek Vanecek stopped 22 shots to help the South Carolina Stingrays (25-16-4-2) earn a point in the standings, but the Tulsa Oilers (23-17-2-2) came away with a 2-1 overtime win Wednesday night at the BOK Center. Connor Kucera's power play goal at 1:05 of overtime proved to be the game-winning tally for the Oilers in the first ever match-up of the two teams.

Tulsa opened the scoring Wednesday evening at the 6:20 mark of the first period. Axel Blomqvist notched his second goal of the season to make it 1-0 Oilers. Blomqcvist cut to the slot and snapped a shot that deflected off South Carolina defender Nick D'Agostino's stick, and past the blocker of Vanecek.

After being outshot 10-5 in the opening period, the Stingrays battled back with offensive pressure in the second period. The Stingrays outshot the Oilers 19-5, and tied the game at 2:01 on a goal from Cameron. Stephan Vigier dumped the puck behind the Tulsa goal. Oilers goalie Kevin Carr stopped the puck behind the net, but Vigier poked it away. He centered a pass to Cameron who snapped a shot over the glove of Carr to make it 1-1. Bobby Shea also assisted.

Carr would come up with several key saves to keep the Stingrays off the scoreboard, including two right pad saves on Jared Staal from the front of the net. Carr finished the night with 37 saves.

Late in the third period, Stingrays forward Austin Fyten would be called for a kneeing penalty that would carry over into overtime. In the extra session, the Oilers hemmed the Stingrays into the defensive zone and worked the puck around the perimeter. The puck was sent to Kucera on the right point, and with traffic in front, his low slapshot found it's way through Vanecek for his third goal of the season at 1:05.

The Stingrays were 0-for-4 on the power play while Tulsa was 1-for-4. South Carolina has collected points in five straight contests.

The Stingrays continue the four-game road trip with an 8:05 p.m. ET puck drop both Friday and Saturday in Wichita. Fans may head to King Street Grille-Northwoods to catch all the action at the Official Watch Party.

South Carolina returns home on Tuesday, February 16 for Ladies Night at 7:05 p.m. against the Greenville Swamp Rabbits. Women 18 and up receive free admission when they show their ID at the North Charleston Coliseum Box Office. There are 2-for-1 ticket specials for men as well, plus, all fans can enjoy $2 beer and $2 hot dog specials.
