
Defenseman Joey Leach Returns to Rays from Hershey

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC- The South Carolina Stingrays, celebrating 23 seasons in the Lowcountry and proud affiliate of the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League (NHL), announced today that defenseman Joey Leach has been returned by the club's American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Hershey Bears.
Leach, 24, has skated in 32 games for the Stingrays this season, posting nine points (four goals, five assists) to go along with 47 penalty minutes. Leach has served as an alternate captain for South Carolina and holds a team-best +18 mark on the season.
Leach appeared in six games with Hershey after being recalled on January 8. He registered three assists and posted a +6 rating with the Bears.
Originally a third round pick of the Calgary Flames in 2010, Leach, a Wadena, Saskatchewan native, is in his third professional season after a five-year junior hockey career for the Kootenay Ice of the Western Hockey League (WHL). He has played in 143 ECHL games with Bakersfield, Fort Wayne and South Carolina, registering 36 points.
The Stingrays are on the road this week. They visit the Tulsa Oilers for a 8:05 p.m. puck drop tonight. Fans are encouraged to head to King Street Grille-Northwoods for the Official Watch Party featuring select $3 drafts.
