LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS
Worcester (10/7): The Manchester Monarchs defeated the Worcester Sharks, 5-4, in a shootout on Saturday night at the Verizon Wireless Arena. Left wings Jeff Giuliano and Noah Clarke and right wings Lauri Tukonen and John Zeiler scored for the Monarchs. Clarke, Tukonen and Zeiler scored on the power play. Center Craig Valette, left wing Mathieu Darche (2) and defenseman Mathieu Biron tallied for the Sharks. Valette's first goal of the season was shorthanded. Monarchs goaltender Jason LaBarbera collected the win with 41 saves. Sharks goaltender Dimitri Patzold took the shootout loss stopping 26 shots. Manchester went 3-for-10 on the power play. Worcester was 2-for-10 with the man advantage.
MONARCHS TRANSACTIONS
10/6/06: The Manchester Monarchs (AHL) signed right wing Ryan Murphy and defenseman Bryan Schmidt to one-year contracts.
10/6/06: The Manchester Monarchs (AHL) signed forward Doug Christiansen to a professional tryout agreement.

The only other season the Monarchs won the season opener, a 5-2 win over the Worcester IceCats on October 15, 2004. They went on to win 20 of their first 21 games.
The Monarchs are 4-for-2 on opening night at the Verizon Wireless Arena. Saturday's game marked the fourth time in Manchester's history that the Monarchs opened the season at home. They opened on the road in 2001 and 2005.

Right wing John Zeiler tallied his first two professional points with a goal and an assist against the Sharks on Saturday, October 7, 2006. Both points came on the power play.
Left wing Jeff Giuliano scored the first goal of the 2006-07 season.
Defenseman Bryan Schmidt collected two assists in his Monarchs debut.
The Monarchs went 3-for-10 on the power play versus the Sharks on Saturday.

Youth Hockey - Center Gabe Gauthier and right wing Konstantin Pushkarev will be assisting the Manchester Flames Mite 1, Squirt 1, Squirt 2 and Pee Wee 2 youth hockey practices at the West Side Arena on Monday, October 16 from 4:15-7:00 p.m.
Youth Hockey - Left wing Lauri Tukonen and defenseman Peter Harrold will be assisting the Manchester Flames Pee Wee 1 and Pee Wee 3 youth hockey practices at the JFK Coliseum on Tuesday, October 17 from 4:15-5:30 p.m.
