Coyotes Recall Yandle From San Antonio

GLENDALE, ARIZONA -- Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Michael Barnett announced today that the Coyotes have recalled rookie defenseman Keith Yandle from the San Antonio Rampage - the Coyotes' top minor league affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL).

Yandle, 20, has registered two assists and four penalty minutes (PIM) in two games with San Antonio this season.

The Boston, Massachusetts native is in his first professional season after leading all Canadian Hockey League (CHL) defensemen in scoring and being named CHL Defenseman of the Year in 2005-06. Yandle registered 25-59-84 and 109 PIM in 66 games with Moncton of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) in last season. He ranked T-2nd in goals and 2nd in assists among CHL defensemen. Yandle also ranked T-4th in the QMJHL in plus/minus at +50.

Yandle led Moncton to a first-place finish in the QMJHL and a trip to the Memorial Cup Finals last season. The 6-2, 195-pound blueliner was honored with the Emile Bouchard Trophy as the QMJHL's best defenseman and received the Telus Trophy as the league's defensive player of the year. Yandle was also named to the QMJHL's First All-Star Team.

Yandle was a CHL rookie last season. Previously, he played in 34 games for Cushing Academy in Massachusetts (USHS) in 2004-05, registering 14-40-54 and 52 PIM. Yandle was a New England prep school First Team All-Star in 2004 and 2005.

Yandle was selected by the Coyotes in the 4th round (105th overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.

Yandle will join the Coyotes in time for their game against the Detroit Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena on Wednesday. The game will begin at 4:30 p.m. Arizona time and will be broadcast on FSN Arizona and The Fan AM 1060.
