Iowa Chops News Release
DES MOINES, IA - The Iowa Stars Director of Hockey Operations Scott White, in conjunction with the American Hockey League, today announced that Iowa Stars Right Wing Junior Lessard has been named the CCM Vector/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending October 8th, 2006. In two games over the weekend, the third-year professional registered two goals and three assists in the Stars two road victories.
On Saturday, Lessard notched the Stars first goal of the season and then earned the primary assist on the game-winning goal midway through the third period in Iowa's 5-4 win in San Antonio. The Quebec-native then posted one goal and two assists on Sunday in Houston. Lessard gave Iowa the lead with a second-period goal, while the first of Lessard's two assists came on the eventual game-winner as Iowa registered a 6-3 victory. In all, Lessard had a hand in five of Iowa's 11 goals and was on the ice for six of those 11 goals.
"Obviously the offensive output is positive and key to Junior's and the team's success", commented White. "We look forward to his leadership both on and off the ice this season."
In recognition of his achievement, Lessard will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Stars home game
The 26-year old Lessard recorded 26 goals and 32 assists for 58 points in 66 games with Iowa last season. He also posted one goal in five NHL games with Dallas in 2005-06. Named the 2004 Hobey Baker Award winner as the Top U.S. Collegiate Hockey Player, Lessard has totaled 39 goals and 45 assists for 84 points in 139 career AHL contests.
