Bulldogs host Calder Cup champions Bears on Friday

The Hamilton Bulldogs play two games this week beginning at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, October 13th, when they host the Calder Cup Champion Hershey Bears (1-0-0-0) at Copps Coliseum. The Bulldogs then travel to Albany for their first road game of the season on Saturday, October 14th at 7:00 p.m. against the River Rats (1-1-0-0) at Pepsi Arena. Hamilton heads into the week after beating the Manitoba Moose 5-3 in their home and season opener on Friday, October 6th.

BULLDOGS HONOUR BILL STURRUP

The original voice and legendary announcer of the Hamilton Bulldogs Bill Sturrup was honoured last week prior to the 2006-2007 home opener against the Manitoba Moose on Friday, October 6th. In a pregame ceremony, the 'Dogs renamed their press box: "The Bill Sturrup Press Box" in honour of the Dundas resident. Hamilton Bulldogs Honourary Ambassador and hockey hall-of-famer Harry Howell and City of Hamilton Councilor Phil Bruckler were on hand for the presentation.

Sturrup, who has mentored hundreds of voices in news, sports and entertainment; has been involved with many notary institutions that include the: Canusa Games, Golden Horeshoe Athlete of the Year, Hamilton Cardinals and Hamilton Thunderbirds. This will be Sturrup's 11th season announcing and introducing Hamilton players, officials and special guests with his unique and personal touch that he has crafted through numerous minor and professional sporting events over the many years.


DEREK WILLS ON "OTR"

Hamilton Bulldogs Manager of Broadcasting and Communications / Play-By-Play Announcer Derek Wills will be a guest on the popular TSN program "Off the Record" with Michael Landsberg tonight (Tueday, October 10, 2006) at 6:00 p.m.

Making his third appearance on "OTR" since June 16th, Wills is scheduled to be joined by TSN Hockey analyst Darren Dreger, former Florida Panthers defenceman Paul Laus, WBE U.S. Welterweight Champion Michael Post and Jeff Marek, Toronto Radio Co-Host of 'Leafs Lunch' on AM 640. Today's program will air at 6:00 p.m. and is scheduled to repeat at 3:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 11th.

- C Chris Higgins and RW Michael Ryder both scored shootout goals as the Montreal Canadiens picked up their first victory of the season with a 3-2 triumph over the Toronto Maple Leafs
- LW Chad Kilger scored two goals as the Toronto Maple Leafs beat the Ottawa Senators 6-0
- C Shawn Horcoff had two assists in two games with the Edmonton Oilers
- D Greg de Vries had an assist in a 6-0 victory for the Atlanta Thrashers over the Florida Panthers
