NEWS & Notes
The Monarchs six-game losing streak against the Lowell Lock Monsters was the longest against one opponent in team history. The Monarchs are 3-5-0-1 in games against the Lock Monsters this season. The teams are scheduled to meet three more times in 2004-05.
The Lock Monsters have held the Monarchs to two or less goals in seven straight games. Manchester is averaging just 2.44 goals per game against the Lock Monsters this season. That's a stark contrast to the Monarchs league-leading 3.46 goals per game average against all opponents this season.
The Monarchs hosted their 11th sellout of the season on Saturday night against the Binghamton Senators. With an average of 8,879 fans per game, the Monarchs lead the 28-team American Hockey League in attendance.
Center Michael Cammalleri collected the game-winning goal as the Monarchs snapped their losing streak to the Lock Monsters on Sunday night with a 2-1 shootout win at the Tsongas Arena. The game-winner, the fourth of the season for Cammalleri, also snapped a Monarchs three-game overall losing streak. The losing streak was the longest of the season.
Cammalleri, who leads the league in goals (32), power plays goals (15) and ranks second in the league in points (74), enters this week's action with a three-game scoring streak. The third-year pro has four points (2-2=4) over his last three games.
With his 15th power play goal of the season on Friday night against the Lock Monsters, Cammalleri set a new Monarchs single season record for power play goals in a season. Former Monarchs left wing Eric Healey held the previous record of 14 power play goals in a season. Healey set the mark during the 2002-03 season.
Cammalleri needs just one more power play goal to move past Healey into first place on the Monarchs all-time power play goals scored list. Cammalleri and Healey share the career mark with 20 power play goals as Monarchs.
With his next point, Cammalleri will move past center Yanick Lehoux into third place on the Monarchs all-time scoring list.
Cammallleri has 133 points (57-76=133) in 107 career Monarchs games over three seasons (2002-05).
Monarchs Career Scoring Leaders
1. Steve Kelly (2001-04) 164 pts (50-114=164)
2. Pavel Rosa (2002-04) 151 pts (67-84=151)
3. Michael Cammalleri (2002-05) 133 pts (57-76=133)
3. Yanick Lehoux (2002-05) 133 pts (53-80=133)
5. Eric Healey (2001-03) 131 pts (66-65=131)
Cammalleri, just the third player in franchise history to score 30 or more goals in a season, has 15 points (5-10=15) in his last 12 games.
Cammalleri needs just 11 goals over his last 26 games to surpass Healey for most goals in a season. Cammalleri has 32 goals in 53 games. Healey collected a league-high 42 goals in 75 games during the 2002-03 campaign.
With 11 goals, Cammalleri will also become the Monarchs new career goal leader. Cammalleri has 57 goals in 107 career Monarchs games. Former Monarchs right wing Pavel Rosa holds the all-time mark of 67 goals. He recorded the 67 goals in 151 games over two seasons (2002-04).
Cammalleri (42 assists) needs eight assists over his last 26 games to set a new single season assist record. Former Monarchs center Steve Kelly (2003-04) and Rosa (2003-04) share the franchise record of 49 assists in a season.
Left wing Jeff Giuliano has equaled his career best in goals (6), assists (14) and points (20) in an AHL season. Giuliano had 20 points (6-14=20) in 80 games with the Monarchs last season.
Defenseman Joe Rullier, the Monarchs all-time games played (247) and penalty minute leader (719), is on pace to break the Monarchs single season record for penalty minutes in a season. Rullier, who leads all AHL defensemen with 234 penalty minutes this season, needs just 36 penalty minutes over his last 26 games (1.38 minutes per game) to surpass the current record of 269 penalty minutes in a season, established by former Monarchs left wing Kip Brennan in 2001-02.
Left wing Dustin Brown has scored the first goal of the game eight times this season. Healey holds the record for most first goals in a season with 10 during the 2003-03 season. Brown is tied for second on the Monarchs with 23 overall goals.
Left wing Noah Clarke is just three goals away from his second consecutive 20-goal season as a Monarch. Clarke, who set Monarchs rookie records for goals (25) and points (51) last year, notched his 17th goal of the season on Friday night against the Lock Monsters. Clarke, who has 37 points (17-20=37) on the season, is tied for the team leadership among forwards with a plus-17 plus/minus rating.
