Manchester Monarchs News Release
HEAD-TO-HEAD - The Monarchs and Beast face-off for the sixth and final time this season, with Manchester holding a 3-2-0-0 record against Brampton. The last time these two teams met, the Monarchs came out with a 4-3 victory in Ontario. Brampton will make only their second trip to Manchester this season, the first coming on Opening Night, a 2-1 Monarchs win.
WHERE WE STAND - The Monarchs (83 points) hold a seven point lead over the Adirondack Thunder for the top spot in the East Division, and a guaranteed top-3 seed in the Eastern Conference playoff structure. Manchester currently trails the Toledo Walleye by four points for tops in the conference, and is only one point behind South Carolina for second place.
PLAYOFF PICTURE - The Monarchs magic number to clinch the East Division crown is eight points, meaning a combination of Monarchs points earned or points Adirondack does not take in games that adds up to eight, will earn the Monarchs the East.
WIN THE FIRST TWO - The Monarchs have still not lost a game in regulation all season when leading after two periods, posting a 24-0-1-3 record in those games. Despite their struggles this season, Brampton has been tough when leading after the second frame, notching more than half of their total wins this season when leading after two periods (9-2-2-2). Comebacks haven't come easy for Brampton, playing to a 3-26-2-1 record when trailing after two periods.
NOT SO BEASTLY ON THE ROAD - The Brampton Beast have been anything but beasts on the road this season, playing to a 7-19-2-2 record away from the Powerade Centre. The seven road victories the Beast have earned this season are tied for the fewest road wins across the ECHL.
LIGHT THE LAMP - The Monarchs are tied for sixth in the league, averaging 3.09 goals/game this season, while Brampton comes into tonight's game tied for 26th in the ECHL with 2.42 goals/game. Brampton has had a tough time lighting the lamp on the road this season, scoring a league low 56 goals away from home and have allowed the third-most road goals (111) in the ECHL, giving up an average of 3.7 goals against.
MAKE THE PENALTIES HURT - Manchester comes into tonight's game with Brampton red-hot on the power play, scoring at least one power-play goal in their last seven games, and hold the fourth-ranked power play in the ECHL, converting on 19.2% of their chances. Brampton will look to stay out of the box, as they begin the day with the league's worst penalty-killing unit, staving off only 77.7% of their shorthanded chances.
