Wheeling Nailers News Release

WHEELING, WV- The Wheeling Nailers, proud ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins, have announced the signing of a new player. Defenseman Kevin Schulze has been signed to an ECHL contract.

Schulze, 22, joins the Nailers after completing a four-year collegiate career at the University of Wisconsin. During his time with the Badgers, Kevin appeared in 148 games, accumulating ten goals, 36 assists, and 46 points. His most productive season in terms of points came during his sophomore year, when he totaled 16, while his best seasons in the goals department came when he tallied four as a freshman and a junior. Prior to joining the NCAA, the White Bear Lake, Minnesota native played one season of junior hockey in the USHL with the Muskegon Lumberjacks and Omaha Lancers, registering 28 points in 58 contests.

Kevin Schulze becomes the third player to join the Nailers this season after finishing his amateur career, and interestingly enough, all three came from different paths. Schulze played college hockey in the USA, Rob De Fulviis played in Canadian Interuniversity Sport, and Parker Bowles went the major junior route in the WHL. When he suits up in his first game with Wheeling, he will be the third player in the organization's history to hail from White Bear Lake, Minnesota, joining Zach Hansen (2010-13) and Eric Hartzell (2013-15). He is expected to wear uniform number two.

The Nailers will play their next three games on the road, starting on Wednesday against the Fort Wayne Komets at 7:30. Wheeling's next home game takes place on April 1st, which is Duck Dynasty Night Starring Si Robertson. In addition, Valley Harley Davidson presents Biker Night, starting with a ride from their location in Wheeling. The following night, April 2nd, will feature an appearance by the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders.
