Wheeling Nailers News Release

FORT WAYNE, IN- The Wheeling Nailers may not have gotten the end result they were looking for on Wednesday night, but facing a fresh opponent, while having a game themselves, they were pleased to see their point streak extend to 11 games. The Nailers and Fort Wayne Komets played to a scoreless tie in three periods, but in the extra session, Fort Wayne prevailed on a goal by Shawn Szydlowski.

The first period was the only one of the three which didn't feature a glorious opportunity for either side, as Fort Wayne led in shots, 11-8. In the middle frame, Wheeling got its best chance of the night, when Riley Brace and Cody Wydo rushed in on a 2-on-1. Brace slid a pass to Wydo in the right circle, where his wrist shot was robbed on a glove save by Pat Nagle. Prior to overtime, the Komets got an incredible opportunity with 4:34 to go in the third period, when Shawn Szydlowski was awarded a penalty shot. However, JP Anderson had the answer with the glove save.

The teams progressed to overtime, and after three shots by the Nailers, it was Fort Wayne who scored on its lone attempt. A loose puck made its way into the slot, where Szydlowski stepped up and roofed a wrist shot into the top-right corner of the net for a 1-0 final score in favor of the Komets.

Pat Nagle pitched the shutout for Fort Wayne, stopping all 33 shots he faced. JP Anderson played another stellar game between the pipes for Wheeling, turning away 24 of the 25 shots he faced.

The Nailers will continue their road trip with two games in Kalamazoo on Friday and Saturday at 7:00. Wheeling will then return home for two games next weekend. Friday is Duck Dynasty Night Starring Si Robertson, in addition to Biker Night Presented by Valley Harley Davidson. Saturday's game features an appearance by the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders.
