Goaltender Mark Dekanich Recalled by Hershey
March 23, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
South Carolina Stingrays News Release
NORTH CHARLESTON, SC- The South Carolina Stingrays, celebrating 23 seasons in the Lowcountry and proud affiliate of the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League (NHL), announced today that goaltender Mark Dekanich has been recalled by the club's American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Hershey Bears.
This marks Dekanich's second recall to Hershey this season. He was summoned by the Bears on December 26 and appeared in one game before returning to South Carolina. With the Stingrays, Dekanich, 29, has been one of the ECHL's top goaltenders, posting a 17-9-2-2 record. His 2.14 goals-against average is sixth in the league, and he boasts the fourth best save-percentage at .926. He has registered a pair of shutouts with the Stingrays this season in 32 appearances.
Dekanich is no stranger to the AHL. A fifth-round draft pick of the Nashville Predators in 2006, Dekanich started his professional career with the Predators' top affiliate, the Milwaukee Admirals, in 2008. He played three seasons in Milwaukee and was named to the 2011 AHL All-Star Game in a season that saw him post a 2.02 goals-against average and a league-best .931 save-percentage. In total, Dekanich has appeared in 163 AHL games.
The Stingrays visit Atlanta on Thursday and Saturday. Puck drop is 7:05 p.m. both evenings. Fans are encouraged to head to King Street Grille-Northwoods, the Watch Party home of the Stingrays, to catch all the action.
