Manchester Monarchs News Release
MANCHESTER, N.H. - The Manchester Monarchs squandered a two-goal game from Maxim Kitsyn, and dropped a back-and-forth contest to the Brampton Beast, 4-2, Wednesday night at the Verizon Wireless Arena.
The Monarchs (37-20-4-5) fell to 3-3-0-0 against the Beast (18-34-7-4) in their season series, and finished the regular season with an 8-5-0-0 record against the North Division.
"We're not doing enough of the little things to win hockey games," Head Coach, Rich Seeley, said. "We're not working as a group of five guys on the ice. We need to come to the rink with a plan tomorrow and take things day-by-day."
The Monarchs opened the scoring when Maxim Kitsyn scored his 25th goal of the season at 17:34 of the opening period. Robbie Donahoe fired a shot on Brampton goaltender, Jordan Ruby, who made the initial save, but the rebound fell to Kitsyn's stick, where he stuffed the puck into an open net for the 1-0 Monarchs lead.
Brampton tied things up at 10:44 of the second period on a goal by Nick McParland. A shot from the point by Tim Billingsley hit McParland directly in front of Monarchs goaltender, Doug Carr, and the Beast forward corralled the loose puck, pushing his 8th goal of the season past Carr.
Kitsyn gave the Monarchs the lead again at 11:33 in the middle frame, scoring his second goal of the game. Kitsyn went in on a 3-on-1 with Mark Anthoine and Zac Larraza, and after a give-and-go with Anthoine, Kitsyn roofed a wrister over the glove shoulder of Ruby, putting the Monarchs up, 2-1.
Brampton squared the game again when Luc-Olivier Blaine netted his 8th goal of the season at 13:59 of the second period. After a stale-mate face-off in the Monarchs zone, Blaine found the puck and snipped a wrister from a sharp angle over Carr's right shoulder to tie the game, 2-2.
Brampton took their first lead at 3:31 of the third period on the 1st goal of the season by Dalton Thrower. Thrower chipped the puck over the shoulder of Carr, finishing an unassisted end-to-end rush, to give the Beast a 3-2 lead.
Brampton sealed the deal with an empty net goal at 19:16 of the final frame. Jeff Brown sent the puck in on the Monarchs empty cage on a clearing attempt from his own defensive zone, and Alex Lintuniemi was a spilt-second too late trying to clear the puck from the goal line, nailing down the Beast victory.
The Monarchs are back in action Friday night (7 p.m.), when they travel to Reading, Pa. to take on the Royals in the final meeting between the East Division rivals during the regular season.
Notes
Maxim Kitsyn scored his 25th goal of the season
Mark Anthoine recorded his 4th multi-point game of the season
