Monarchs Game Day Capsule, March 21
March 21, 2018 - ECHL (ECHL)
Manchester Monarchs News Release
PLAYOFF PICTURE
Manchester is tied for first place with the Adirondack Thunder, both with 81 points, followed by the Reading Royals (76), Wheeling Nailers (70) and Worcester Railers (67). The Monarchs magic number is down to seven to clinch a spot in the playoffs, meaning any combination of seven points through Monarchs wins and Worcester Railers losses would result in a playoff berth for Manchester.
HEATING UP
The Monarchs enter tonight's game on a league-high five-game winning streak, including winning their last three games in overtime. This stretch is coming off a Monarchs season-long five-game losing streak, dating from Feb. 24 to Mar. 3. Meanwhile, the Royals have notched at least one point in their last six games, going 3-0-3-0 during that span. In their last five games, the Royals have racked up 22 goals against opposing goaltenders, averaging 4.4 goals per game.
WATCHING WILLOWS
The Monarchs will have to keep an eye on the Royals leading scorer Matt Willows tonight, as he ranks 5th in the league with 66 points on 28 goals and 38 assists. Willows has recorded a point in 20 of his last 24 games played, including 15 goals and 19 assists dating back to Jan. 14. In six games against the Monarchs this season, Willows has tallied four points on two goals and two assists.
