Cam Brown Returns to Wheeling

WHEELING, WV- The Wheeling Nailers, proud ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins, have announced three transactions, which all take effect immediately. Forward Cam Brown has been returned to the Nailers from his loan to the Springfield Thunderbirds, Wheeling has signed defenseman Owen Headrick, and the Tucson Roadrunners have recalled forward Derek Army.

Brown, 24, earned his first call to the American Hockey League in the middle of February, and went on to appear in 13 games with Springfield. Cam produced one goal and one assist, netting his first AHL marker in a home contest against the Providence Bruins on February 17th. The Natick, Massachusetts native has enjoyed a fantastic rookie season with the Nailers. Brown ranks second on the team in rookie scoring, having amassed 13 goals, 31 assists, and 44 points in 47 games. One of Cam's best stretches of the year came shortly before he went to the Thunderbirds, when he produced at least one point in nine straight games and 17 of 21 tilts. He has scored three points in a game on three different occasions.

Headrick, 20, joins the Nailers after completing his junior hockey career with the OHL's Erie Otters. This season, Owen finished third on his team in scoring and first among defensemen, collecting 13 goals, 33 assists, and 46 points in 64 games. 2016-17 was a special season for the Garden River, Ontario native, who started the year at Lake Superior State University, before joining the Otters on their run to a J. Ross Robertson Cup Championship and an appearance in the Mastercard Memorial Cup. Headrick appeared in all 22 playoff contests for Erie. Owen comes to Wheeling having notched at least one point in 11 of his last 14 games.

Army, 26, earns his second recall to Tucson this month, having appeared in five of Wheeling's last eight games. Derek has produced 20 points in 26 games with the Nailers this season, while also tallying five goals in 22 AHL contests. The North Kingstown, Rhode Island native has totaled 70 goals, 86 assists, and 156 points in 254 professional games.

The Nailers will start a four-game homestand on Wednesday night with a pivotal match against the Worcester Railers, starting at 7:05. The game is also a WesBanco Winning Wednesday. The next big promotional game is Fan Appreciation Night on March 31st at 7:05 against the Manchester Monarchs. Fan Appreciation Night will feature a diamond ring giveaway for one lucky fan, a team trading card set for the first 2,500 fans, a full team post game autograph session, and various prizes throughout the game.
