Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release
Greenville, SC - The Greenville Swamp Rabbits, proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack, announced that a pair of skaters have been added to the roster. Forward Spencer Dorowicz and defenseman Robert Powers have signed contracts with the Swamp Rabbits after completing their senior season at Robert Morris University. Both skaters helped their alma mater to three Atlantic Hockey Conference Finals appearances.
Dorowicz, 24, has played 145 games at Robert Morris in the last four seasons, missing only 10 games in his career to finish tenth in school history. The Olds, Alberta native enjoyed the best production of his career as a senior, netting eight goals and adding 11 assists. Dorowicz comes to Greenville after netting three game winning goals for Robert Morris this season and was named Atlantic Hockey Conference Player of the Week for the first time in his career.
The 5-foot-11 forward has collected 59 points (23G, 36A) and recorded six game-winning goals in his career. The Colonial alum posted three-point nights on three separate occasions in his four seasons. Before joining the collegiate ranks, Dorowicz played four full years for his hometown team the Olds Grizzlys. He captained the Grizzlys in 2013-14 and collected a team leading 75 points (40G, 35A). Dorowicz capped off his junior career with 179 points (75G, 104A) and went down as Olds' fifth highest scorer in franchise history. His 223 games played have also trumped any other skater in the club's 36-year history.
Powers, 23, has played 84 games with the Colonials over the last four seasons and did not miss a single game in his senior year. The 6-foot blue liner recorded a pair of goals and 12 assists for a career best 14 points. Powers also earned his first Atlantic Hockey Defensive Player of the Week honor at the same time as Dorowicz.
The Ajax, Ontario native was a three-time AHC All-Academic Team representative and earned a plus-3 rating on defense over his career at Robert Morris. Powers played three seasons in the OJHL before enrolling at Robert Morris, suiting up for the Toronto Patriots, Stouffville Spirit, and the Toronto Jr. Canadiens. He played a total of 132 games, recording 21 goals and adding 62 points. In his final junior season, he helped the Patriots to a 2014 Dudley Hewitt Cup title and OJHL Championship.
Dorowicz and Powers join the Swamp Rabbits ahead of a weekend series with the Jacksonville Icemen. Greenville begins the weekend on Friday with Golf Night presented by Golf for Greenville and follow up with Saturday's Pucks & Paws / Craft Beer Night at 7 p.m.
