Manchester Monarchs News Release
MANCHESTER, N.H. - The Manchester Monarchs fell to the Florida Everblades, 4-1, Friday night at SNHU Arena, ending the Monarchs five-game winning streak.
With the loss, the Monarchs (11-5-0-1) split the weekend series with the Everblades (11-2-1-2), and won't play their conference rivals again until early January.
"I think we let them off the hook with the way we came out in the first period," said Monarchs head coach, Rich Seeley. "They outworked us in the first period and executed when they needed to. We had plenty of opportunities to get back in the game, but just weren't able to get the job done."
The Everblades opened the scoring at 2:19 of the first period when Michael Kirkpatrick scored his 3rd goal of the season. Kirkpatrick skated in on Monarchs goaltender, Sam Brittain, deked, and sent a wrister through the netminder for the early 1-0 Everblades lead.
Florida added to their lead when Brendan O'Donnell netted a shorthanded goal at 10:21 of the opening period. After a pass to the point in the offensive zone wasn't handled by the Monarchs, Brant Harris led a 2-on-1 the other way and fed O'Donnell who had nothing but net to shoot at, and gave the Everblades a 2-0 advantage.
Kirkpatrick added to the Everblades lead when he scored his 2nd goal of the game at 14:24 of the second period. Kirkpatrick took a pass from Harris in the slot and beat Brittain low blocker, to push the Florida lead to 3-0.
The Everblades padded their lead at 7:01 when former Monarchs captain, Matt MacKenzie, scored his 4th goal of the season while on the power play. MacKenzie sent a wrister from the blue line through traffic, beating Brittain to make the score, 4-0, Everblades.
The Monarchs finally got on the scoreboard when Justin Agosta scored his 5th goal of the season at 18:46 of the final frame. Agosta threw the puck towards the net from the left corner, and the puck bounced off a defenseman past Everblades goaltender, Anthony Peters, making the score, 4-1.
The Monarchs are back in action Saturday, Nov. 26 (7:05 p.m.) when they visit the Elmira Jackals for the first of a two-game series in Western New York.
