STEELHEADS: Game Day Storylines- vs Allen

November 25, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Idaho Steelheads News Release

Steel Reel The Steelheads return home to CenturyLink Arena looking to advance a season-high unbeaten streak to six games, and they will try to do it against the team that knocked them out of the playoffs last season, the two-time defending Kelly Cup champion Allen Americans. The two-game series will be the first meeting between the two teams since April 26th, when Tristan King's overtime goal in Game 7 brought Idaho's season to a close.

The Steelheads completed their three-game swing through Norfolk with a 4-1 win last Saturday, a game that was tied 1-1 entering the third period. Jefferson Dahl's power play deflection in the third period gave him goals in three straight games for Idaho and was the eventual game-winner. Brian Nugent scored his first goal as a Steelhead in the second period, and Travis Ewanyk added two empty-netters in the final minutes to seal the win.

Put a Bow on it... Landon Bow stopped 35 shots last Saturday to earn his seventh win of the season. It was the third time in 11 appearances that the rookie netminder stopped at least 35 shots in a winning effort. Bow has won three straight starts and is 6-1-0 in his last seven appearances with a 2.40 goals-against average and a .930 save percentage.

Mucha Looch... After earning just one assist in the first five games of November, Anthony Luciani showed his scoring touch in Norfolk with a goal and three points in two games. In his last three contests, Luciani has two goals and three assists to go along with a plus-3 rating. Luciani leads the team with 49 shots on goal, firing eight in the past three games. Currently with a 10.2 shooting percentage, look for Luciani to keep putting the puck on net.

Roll Continues... Jefferson Dahl has scored in three consecutive games, with all three of his goals coming in the third period. Dahl has scored at least a point in 13 of the past 14 games, and has only been held off the sheet three times this season. The third-year Steelhead went over the 100-point mark for his ECHL career last Wednesday in Norfolk and now has 103 points for his career. Dahl's has recorded five multi-point games this season.

Can Boss Continue... Joe Basaraba has six points over his past seven games for Idaho, and he hopes to continue that scoring pace against an Americans team he had success against last season. Basaraba missed all four regular-season contests with Allen due to injury, but in the playoffs scored three goals and seven points against Allen in seven games to tie for the team lead in scoring. Basaraba had a three-point game the last time the Steelheads and Americans met at CenturyLink Arena, a 7-1 Steelheads win in Game 5 of the first round playoff series.

About the Americans... The Americans are one game under .500 as they prepare for Friday night, but they have won two straight overtime games to improve their record. Ten players return from last year's Kelly Cup team, including reigning MVP Chad Costello with 23 points in 17 games and three-time Kelly Cup winning goalie Riley Gill. Allen also boasts the reigning Rookie of the Year in Matt Willows, who has eight points in 11 games with the Americans. Friday is Allen's third game of a season-long six game road trip.
