Kansas City Monarchs News Release

Kansas City, Kan. - The Monarchs were busy on Thursday, as the club re-signed LHP Carlos Diaz and signed 23-year-old RHP Cole Duensing from the Los Angeles Angels farm system. Diaz, who had his contract transferred to the Mexican League on July 22nd, re-joins a bullpen that recently released RHP Ryan Newell.

Diaz, 29, is one save away from becoming the all-time save leader in Kansas City Monarchs history. His 33 career saves with Kansas City ties him with former T-Bones pitcher Cody Winiarski.

Duensing, 23, last pitched in Advanced-A ball for the Tri-City Dust Devils. He appeared in 17 games and worked a 6.30 ERA with 33 strikeouts in 30 innings. The right-hander was drafted in the sixth round of the 2016 MLB Draft out of Blue Valley Northwest High School in Overland Park, which is located less than 30 minutes from Legends Field.

In response to the pair of additions, RHP Jose Taveras was placed on Irrevocable waivers and RHP Gunnar Groen was put on the disabled list.

The Monarchs continue their homestand tonight when they look to take the rubber match from Sioux City in the series finale. First pitch for 7:00 p.m. with the gates opening at 6:00 p.m. The game can be heard on the Monarchs Broadcast Network with the pregame beginning at 6:30. The game will also stream on aabaseball.tv.
