Manchester Monarchs News Release
LOS ANGELES, CA â An appreciative STAPLES Center crowd of 10,074 enjoyed a solid 60 minutes of hockey as the Manchester Monarchs improved to 4-0 on the season with a 5-0 win over the Utah Grizzlies on Saturday night in Los Angeles. The win completed a Monarchs road sweep over their only Western Conference opponent this season. Manchester topped Utah, 5-3, in Utah on Wednesday night. The Grizzlies dropped to 0-4-0-1 on the season with the loss.
Goaltender Adam Hauser moved to 2-0 on the season with his first shutout. He had 20 saves in the game, including two challenging stops with the Grizzlies enjoying a lengthy 5-on-3 man-advantage in the early stages of the first period.
Defenseman Troy Milam opened the scoring with his first goal of the season minutes later, a blue line blast that deflected off a Utah defender and slid by goaltender David LeNeveu (35 shots, 30 saves) at 11:01. Wings Petr Kanko and Noah Clarke each assisted on the power play goal, the first of four on the night for the Monarchs.
The Monarchs stretched their lead to 4-0 with second period goals from center Yanick Lehoux, right wing Brad Smyth and Milam. Lehoux's team-leading sixth goal of the season came 2:13 into the period with assists from left wing Dustin Brown and right wing Tom Kostopoulos.
Lehoux collected his second point of the night with an assist on Smyth's third goal of the season at 10:53. Defenseman Tim Gleason also assisted on the 5-on-3 power play marker, the 272nd of Smyth's AHL career.
Milam's second power play goal of the night looked a lot like his first, a drive from the point that LeNeveu was unable to handle at 17:30. Kostopoulos and left wing Ryan Flinn assisted on the Monarchs third goal of the period.
Brown made it 5-0 Monarchs with his second goal of the season, scored on the power play 60 seconds into the final period. Lehoux collected his third point of the night with an assist on the play.
