Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
Hamilton, ON - The Hamilton Bulldogs thrilled the hometown crowd by defeating the Edmonton Road Runners in overtime on Sunday evening in front of 3,395 at Copps Coliseum.
Scoring the overtime game-winner was Tomas Plekanec who now has a three-game goal-scoring streak to his credit. Corey Locke continued his outstanding play, earning another first star selection, and goalie Yann Danis was solid between the pipes for the hometown Bulldogs who improved to 3-1-2-0 on the season.
The Bulldogs opened the scoring just five minutes into the game on a beautiful goal by the rookie pairing of Corey Locke and Andrei Kostitsyn. Locke sped down the left wing around the defender and fed a pass over to Kostitsyn who buried his second goal of the season. The goal came at the 5:44 mark of the first period.
Edmonton would get on the board at 14:39 of the first period as Sean McAslan took a pass from behind the net and shoveled his second of the season into the top corner.
A mere 32 seconds later the Road Runners went ahead 2-1 on a powerplay goal. Defenceman Doug Lynch blasted a shot from the point which was redirected by winger Brad Winchester past goalie Yann Danis.
Corey Locke and Andrei Kostitsyn clicked again in the second to tie the game at 2-2. Kostitsyn fed a pass up to Chris Higgins, who shot at the net, allowing Locke to stuff in the rebound.
After a scoreless third period the teams prepared for overtime and fans did not have to wait long for the game to end in the Bulldogs' favour. Jason Ward stepped over the blueline and fired a shot that trickled past goalie Tyler Moss and sat near the goal line before Tomas Plekanec stuffed it home for his team-leading fourth goal of the season. The overtime game-winner came at the 2:56 mark.
Earning the win in the Bulldogs net was goalie Yann Danis who put aside 23 of 25 shots and improved to 3-1-0. Tyler Moss stopped 40 of 43 in a losing cause for the Road Runners who fell to 5-2 on the season.
The Bulldogs' next action will take place on Friday, October 29nd when they play host to the Philadelphia Phantoms at Copps Coliseum in Hamilton. Game time will be 7:30pm.
