Monarchs Assign One to Ontario; Release One; Sign One

LOS ANGELES, CA - The Manchester Monarchs, the primary affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings, have assigned forward Michael Pelech to the ECHL's Ontario Reign, released defenseman Jordan Hill from his professional tryout agreement and signed right wing Zach Harnden to a one-year contract, Monarchs Director of Hockey Operations Hubie McDonough announced today. In addition, the Kings have activated both defenseman Drew Doughty and forward Scott Parse from the injured list, Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced today.
Pelech, 21, appeared in five games with the Monarchs this season and recorded zero points and six penalty minutes. The 6-foot-3, 209-pound native of Toronto, Ontario collected 35 points (10-2535) in 72 games with the Reign last season. Selected by the Kings in the sixth-round (156th overall) in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, Pelech signed a one-year contract with the Monarchs on August 25, 2010.
Hill, 21, was held off the scoreboard in five games with the Monarchs this season. The 6-foot-2, 195-pound native of Sarnia, Ontario made his professional debut with the AHL's Manitoba Moose against Hamilton on April 4, 2010. Hill registered zero points and two penalty minutes in two games with the Moose last season. Prior to turning pro, he split the 2009-10 season between the Ontario Hockey League's Sarnia Sting and Saginaw Spirit. Hill recorded 19 points (4-1519) and 55 penalty minutes in 41 games with the Sting and also picked up 19 points (3-1619) and 18 penalty minutes in 28 games with the Spirit.
Harnden, 21, has recorded one point, a goal, in four games with the Monarchs this season. Prior to joining the Monarchs, the 6-foot-3, 199-pound native of Thunder Bay, Ontario spent one season (2009-10) with the OHL's Kingston Frontenacs and four seasons (2005-09) with the OHL's Peterborough Petes. Harnden recorded 60 points (24-3660) and 65 penalty minutes in 65 games with the Frontenacs and collected 105 points (51-54105) and 104 penalty minutes in 248 games with the Petes.
Doughty, 20, suffered an upper-body injury on October 20 vs. Carolina and has missed the last six Kings games. He has one point (an assist), six penalty minutes and a plus-2 rating in five games this season. Last season, the 6-foot, 212-pound native of London, Ontario was a finalist for the Norris Trophy and named a Second-Team NHL All-Star as he recorded 59 points (16-4359) and 54 penalty minutes in all 82 regular season games. Among NHL defensemen last season he ranked: third in points, tied for second in goals, tied for fifth in assists, tied for second in power-play goals (9), second in power-play points (31), tied for fifth in power-play assists (22) and first in game-winning goals (5).
Parse, 26, suffered a lower-body injury during training camp and has missed all 11 Kings games so far this season. Last season the 5-foot-11, 188-pound native of Portage, Michigan had 24 points (11-1324) and 22 penalty minutes in 59 regular season games. He was tied for 10th among NHL rookies in goals and tied for second among league freshman (first among forwards) with a plus-13 rating.
The Monarchs will take on the Hartford Wolf Pack in a rematch at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Friday, November 5 at 7:00 p.m. The first 2,000 kids (12 and under) will receive a Monarchs tin lunch box, courtesy of Harvard Pilgrim Health Care.
