NORFOLK, Va. - The Norfolk Admirals will partner with the Roc Solid Foundation on Sunday to help build a custom backyard playground for a local child stricken with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL).

Two-year-old Megan Schulte has been chosen as the next recipient of a custom backyard play-set, to be donated and constructed by the Roc Solid Foundation's Play It Forward program. Megan suffers from Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL); a disease that attacks the body's lymphoid white blood cells, which are responsible for fighting infection. Megan is a very lively and active little girl, despite her condition.

The Admirals are partnering with the Roc Solid Foundation to help construct a play-set for Megan in hopes that it would lift her spirits. Members of the team will arrive on Sunday, November 7, 2010, at 9:00 a.m. (217 Piez Ave, Newport News, VA) to help start the construction of her new play-set. The volunteers will build from 9:00 a.m. through 2:00 p.m. During this time Roc Solid will take Megan and her family out for a day of fun. At 1:00 p.m., Roc Solid and the Admirals will present Megan with her completed play-set. A cookout for friends, family and volunteers will follow the presentation.

"I had the chance to meet (Megan) on the same day she received her treatment and there was no sign of a sick little girl," says Roc Solid Foundation founder Eric Newman. "I was met with the biggest hug a two-year-old could give and she was full of smiles."

Newman, who is a childhood cancer survivor himself, founded the Roc Solid Foundation in 2008. Roc Solid was founded to offer hope and encourage optimism among patients and their families amidst the daunting challenges and harsh realities of pediatric cancer. The foundation's flagship program, "Play it Forward," builds custom playgrounds for children undergoing chemotherapy and radiation. Each play-set not only rewards a child for their courage and perseverance in their struggle with the illness, but also provides them with a bridge to dissolve social awkwardness among their peers due to the effects of the disease and its tolling treatments.
