Monarchs Add Arm to the Rotation

Kansas City, Kan. - The Kansas City Monarchs (11-10) completed a trade on Sunday, as the club acquired RHP Gregori Vasquez from the Gary SouthShore RailCats (12-12) for a player to be named later.

Vasquez, 23, started four games for the RailCats in 2021. The right-hander went 1-2 with a 3.63 ERA - striking out 23 and walking just three in 17 â..." innings. Vasquez last pitched against the Monarchs on June 10th in Gary. The 23-year-old tossed 5 â..." innings and allowed three runs on eight hits with eight strikeouts.

Vasquez made 52 starts across five minor league seasons in the Cleveland Indians' organization. The right-hander posted a career 3.36 ERA with a 1.152 WHIP in 356 innings. He last pitched in a major league organization in 2019 for the Arizona League Indians (Rookie Ball).

Vasquez is expected to make his first start for Kansas City on Wednesday against his former team when the Monarchs host the Gary SouthShore RailCats in game two of a three game series.

The Monarchs continue their series with the barnstorming Houston Apollos Sunday afternoon with a first pitch scheduled for 1:00 p.m. The games can be heard on the Monarchs Broadcast Network with the pre-game beginning at 12:40 p.m. and the video stream will air on aabaseball.tv. The game will also air on 1510 ESPN Kansas City.
