Minnesota United FC News Release
GOLDEN VALLEY - Minnesota United today announced it will host Sporting Kansas City in the Fourth Round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. This will be the fourth meeting between the teams in the Open Cup since 2014. The game will take place at Allianz Field on Wednesday, June 12, at 7:00 p.m. CT.
The Fourth Round draw took place at U.S. Soccer headquarters in Chicago, Illinois, on Thursday morning, with the Loons being placed in the Northern Plains pool with Sporting KC, Colorado Rapids and New Mexico United (USL Championship).
This round is the first of the tournament featuring the 21 U.S.-based MLS teams, who are joined by the 11 winners from the Third Round that took place earlier this week. MNUFC last hosted a game in the U.S. Open Cup in 2016, playing SKC at the National Sports Center Stadium in Blaine.
The winners of the Fourth Round games will advance to the Round of 16, where they will be redrawn into a geographically-based bracket that will be fixed for the rest of the tournament. The Round of 16 will be played in mid-June and the Final will be played on August 27 or 28.
The 2019 U.S. Open Cup is the 106th edition of the tournament, the longest ongoing soccer competition in the country, and features 84 teams from all levels of the U.S. Soccer pyramid from amateur sides up to MLS.
Season ticket members will have access to a presale for tickets for the U.S. Open Cup beginning on Friday, May 31, while members of The Preserve will have access to a presale beginning on Monday, June 3. Tickets will go on sale to the public on Tuesday, June 4 at 10:00 a.m.
