Trenton Thunder News Release
(Harrisburg, PA) - Chris Marrero, on a major league rehab assignment, homered and set up the winning run with a tenth-inning double as the Harrisburg Senators defeated the Trenton Thunder, 4-3, Friday night at Metro Bank Park. Chris McConnell's bases loaded single ended the game in the tenth, sending the Thunder to their second walkoff loss in as many nights.
Marrero, who played 31 games with the Washington Nationals in 2011 but has been on the shelf with a torn hamstring this season, hit a long home run in the fifth against Shaeffer Hall to put Harrisburg in front 3-1. Then after Trenton forced extra innings, Marrero led off the tenth against Michael Dubee (2-1) with a bomb to center that just missed going over the fence and hit high off the wall.
After Dubee struck out Jesus Valdez, the Thunder intentionally walked Tim Pahuta to put two runners on. Dubee then walked Chris Rahl setting the stage for McConnell's game-winner, coming in his first at-bat of the game after entering in the ninth as a pinch runner.
Melky Mesa's two-out single in the eighth against reliever Hector Nelo tied the game for the Thunder, who also received a solo home run from Luke Murton, his ninth of the season.
Erik Davis (5-2), the Senators sixth pitcher of the game, worked a 1-2-3 top of the tenth to earn the victory. Hall pitched six innings and allowed three runs for the Thunder in a no-decision.
The Thunder and Senators continue the three-game series on Saturday night with first pitch slated for 7:00 pm. Right-hander Brett Marshall (6-3, 2.64) will start for Trenton while righty Paul Demny (4-3, 4.82) will pitch for Harrisburg. Radio coverage on 91.3 FM (WTSR) and 1490 AM (WBCB) and also streaming online begins at 6:45 pm.
