Reading, PA -The Reading Phillies scored five times in the seventh inning Saturday night, breaking a tie game, and cruising to a 7-2 win over the Akron Aeros before 9,750 fans at First Energy Stadium.
With the score tied 2-2, the Phillies (36-27) batted around in the fifth, pounding out five runs on five hits against Akron starter T.J. House (4-2), including a solo homer from catcher Sebastian Valle and a two-run double by Leandro Castro.
The R-Phils, who entered the night one-game out of first place in the EL East, collected 15 hits in the game, a season-high against the Aeros.
House saw his three-game winning streak come to a close, as he allowed a season-high seven runs on 13 hits, also a season-high. He walked one and struck out one. In his prior four starts, House had an ERA of 1.03.
The Aeros (41-22) came back from early deficits twice on the strength of solo home runs. Down 1-0, in the second, Michel Hernandez lined a homer to left, his first of the season. Then in the fourth, after the Phils took a 2-1 lead, Juan Diaz launched his fifth homer, a solo shot to right to make it 2-2.
Reading starter Trevor May (6-4) was stingy through six innings, giving up just the two solo shots.
Chun Chen had an eighth inning single when his ground ball struck Davis Stoneburner running from second to third. The hit extended Chen's hitting streak to a personal-high 10 games.
The Aeros and Phillies will continue the series Saturday with a 5:35 PM doubleheader, making up a rainout from April 20th. Both games will be seven innings. In the first game, LHP Giovanni Soto (5-2, 4.08) will start for Akron. He'll be opposed by Reading's RHP David Buchanan (3-5, 4.01). In the night cap, the Aeros will go with RHP Toru Murata (0-1, 5.12), and the Phils will counter with RHP Jordan Whatcott (1-0, 1.78).
