Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

One day removed from being named team MVP, Albuquerque Isotopes infielder Russ Mitchell has been selected Pacific Coast League Batter of the Week for games beginning on August 23 and continuing through August 29, a span in which he batted .517 (15x29) in seven games.

Mitchell led all PCL hitters for the week with eight extra-base hits, racking up four home runs and four doubles while driving in nine runs and scoring 11 more. On August 25, the infielder blasted two home runs in a crucial 11-3 win over division-leading Oklahoma City and in the first game of a doubleheader vs. New Orleans on August 24, Mitchell tied a season high with four hits in a 6-5 win over the Z's.

Thanks in part to Mitchell's hot-hitting, the 'Topes find themselves just two games behind Oklahoma City in the PCL's American Southern Division with nine games to play. He is the third Isotope to be recognized for League honors this season, joining first baseman John Lindsey (Batter of the Week- April 8-19, and May 24-June 1) and starter Seth Etherton (Pitcher of the Week- May 24-June 1).

Albuquerque wraps up its 2010 regular season home schedule with five games in four days against the Iowa Cubs at Isotopes Park beginning tonight before finishing the season at Round Rock over Labor Day Weekend. Tickets for any Isotopes game may be purchased at the Isotopes Park Box Office, at Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at 1-800-745-3000, or on-line at www.albuquerquebaseball.com or www.ticketmaster.com.
