COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Albuquerque Isotopes third baseman Russ Mitchell and Memphis Redbirds starting pitcher Brandon Dickson have been named the Pacific Coast League's Player and Pitcher of the Week for August 23-29, the league announced Monday.

Mitchell, 25, batted .517 (15-for-29) with four home runs, four doubles, nine RBI and 11 runs scored in seven games played. His eight extra-base hits and 31 total bases led the league during the week and helped him post a 1.602 OPS (on-base plus slugging). His offensive outburst also helped the Isotopes take four-of-five from Oklahoma City, moving his club within 2.0 games of the RedHawks in the American Conference Southern Division.

Drafted in the 15th round of the 2003 first-year player draft, the Rome, Ga., native has found

tremendous success in his first Triple-A season. He is batting .325 with 23 home runs on the year, including .359 with 11 long balls since the All-Star break. Mitchell leads all PCL third basemen with a .964 fielding percentage, and was named the Isotopes' Most Valuable Player this past Sunday.

Dickson, a 2010 PCL All-Star selection, went 2-0 with a league-best 17 strikeouts in 15 innings pitched during the week. He bookended the Redbirds' six-game winning streak with a pair of excellent performances, narrowly missing a complete-game shutout on Tuesday in Omaha and wrapping up a five-game sweep of Round Rock with a nine-strikeout performance on Sunday.

The 25-year-old right-hander is among the league leaders in nearly every pitching category, including first in strikeouts (130), third in innings pitched (161 1/3), fifth in ERA (3.24) and fifth in wins (11). He is scheduled to start Friday's series opener against the Iowa Cubs, a showdown that could decide the PCL's American Conference Northern Division title.

Mitchell's award is the fourth given to a member of the Isotopes in 2010. John Lindsey won a pair of Player of the Week awards, for April 8-18 and May 24-30, while Seth Etherton took Pitcher of the Week honors for May 24-30. Dickson becomes the third Redbird to win Pitcher of the Week this season, joining P.J. Walters for May 10-16 and Fernando Salas for July 5-11.
