RH Brandon McCarthy (3-1, 3.80) vs. RH Tim Dillard (4-6, 4.34)
TONIGHT: The RedHawks open their final homestand of the regular season with the first of a 5-game, 4-day series against Nashville. The RedHawks are 5-6 against the Sounds this season, but won 2 of 3 in a rain-shortened series at OKC in early July. The teams will play a 5:05 pm (CDT) doubleheader tomorrow to make up for a July 4 rainout. Nashville is the fourth place team in the American North, 5 games back of Iowa, but the Sounds would lead the RedHawks' division by 1.5 games. OKC remains atop the American South by 2 games over Albuquerque despite losing 4 of 5 to the Isotopes in the series that ended with a 10-5 OKC setback last night.
MAGIC NUMBER REMAINS 8: The RedHawks' division lead dipped from 5 to 2 games with losses the past three nights in Albuquerque. OKC and Albuquerque have each had a game cancelled with no makeup, so they will play 143 games barring further postponements.
MOSCOSO SCRATCHED: Guillermo Moscoso did not make his scheduled start last night because of finger blister. Lefty Ben Snyder was transferred from Double-A Frisco for his Triple-A debut, taking the loss after allowing 10 runs on 9 hits in 3 innings.
HOME SWEET HOME: The RedHawks' ended their road schedule last night with a 10-5 loss. OKC went 33-38 on the road, sporting a .256 team batting average and 4.04 ERA. After opening the season 18-12 on the road, the RedHawks went 15-26 over their final 41 road contests and did not win a road series against a team other than Round Rock after taking 3 of 4 in Omaha June 5-8. The RedHawks are 37-26 at home, with a .290 average and 3.99 ERA. Overall, the RedHawks lead the PCL with a 4.01 ERA, which was 3.82 at the start of the Albuquerque series.
IRIBARREN STREAKING: Hernan Iribarren has hit safely in 6 straight and 22 of his last 24 games dating to Aug. 5, going 38-for-92 (.413) with 5 homers and 22 RBIs in that span. He has set career highs in homers (8) and RBIs (69). His previous career high in homers was 5, in 2004, and in RBIs was 55, set last year (54 with Nashville, 1 with Milwaukee).
ALBUQUERQUE TALES OF WOE: The Isotopes scored double-digit runs in all 4 of their wins in the series that ended last night. OKC had allowed 10 or more runs just 5 times all season until that series. OKC pitching allowed 64 hits, 43 earned runs and 14 homers in 41 innings while going 1-4 with a 9.44 ERA in the series. The Isotopes out-homered the RedHawks 14-5. Their 14 homers account for 14.1% of the season total of 99 homers allowed by OKC pitching. Albuquerque out-scored the RedHawks in the combined first 4 innings of the series 34-7.
RAMIREZ RAKES: Max Ramirez bring a 6-game hitting streak into tonight's game, during which he's 7-for-19 (.368) with 6 RBIs. He produced those 6 RBIs in the past 3 games. Ramirez has hits in 12 of his last 13 games, going 15-for-43 (.349) with 2 homers and 11 RBIs.
