Arkansas Travelers News Release

The Arkansas Travelers were shutout and held to just five hits in the 6-0 loss against the San Antonio Missions on Thursday night at Dickey-Stephens Park. Travs offense managed to get only two runners to third, and when they did get running in scoring position the Travs couldn't find the big hit, going 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position.

After the loss to San Antonio the Travs second half record falls to 19-27 (45-71 overall), and the Missions second half record improves to 23-23 (58-58 overall).

The Travs started Tim Kiely (4-8) who suffered the loss after giving up six runs on nine hits in six innings. Nathan Culp (4-6) started for the Missions and earned his third win in a ro, throwing six innings and giving up no runs on four hits.

The Missions took the lead in the first inning. Blake Tekotte led off with a single and Logan Forsythe followed a one-out book ruled double that bounced over the right field fence putting runners on second and third. Matt Clark grounded to first base to knock in Tekotte, while James Darnell doubled down the third base line bringing Forsythe to the plate to give the Missions a 2-0 lead.

The Missions added four more runs in the sixth inning. Matt Clark hit a one-out single, and was followed by a single from Darnell to putt runners on first and second. Clack and Darnell moved to second and third on passed ball putting them both in scoring position. The Travs infield moved in to make the play at the plate, and Kiley got Sawyer Carroll to ground to first or the second out. Luis Martinez took a walk to load the bases, and Andrew Parrino doubled bringing in both Clark and Darnell to improve the Missions lead to 4-0. Quinton Berry then singled up the middle to Travs center fielder Tyson Auer. Martinez scored easily, but Auer had a chance to throw out Parrino at the plate. Auer's throw bounced right in front of the mound, but catcher Beau Brooks couldn't hang on to it, which allowed Parrino to score giving the Missions a 6-0 lead.

The Travs tried to get something going in the bottom of the seventh. Efren Navarro led off with a single, and Abel Nieves followed with a walk, putting runners on first and second. Ricky Alvarez grounded to second, but it was soft enough to move the runners to second and third with one out. Brooks and Auer then struck out to end the inning and leave runners in scoring position.

Time of game was 2:43 and the paid attendance was 5,965.
