Tulsa Drillers News Release
The Midland RockHounds put on an offensive display Friday night at Citibank Ballpark and defeated the Tulsa Drillers 11-5. Midland totaled 19 hits in the game and scored in every inning but one to send the Drillers to their second straight defeat.
Second baseman Jemile Weeks was the top producer for the RockHounds, finishing with four hits and two runs scored. Weeks was one of seven Hounds' players that picked up at least two hits in the game.
The 19 hits were the most surrendered in a game this season by Tulsa pitchers.
The RockHounds scored in each of the first six innings with single runs in both the first and second innings and two runs in each of the next three straight frames.
Midland led 6-0 before the Drillers got on the scoreboard with two runs of their own in the top of the fifth. Scott Beerer singled and scored on a double by catcher Lars Davis, while Mike Mitchell plated Davis with a two-out base hit to make it 6-2.
The RockHounds answered with their two runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Kiel Roling accounted for Tulsa's third run with his 12th homer of the year with one out in the sixth.
The Drillers added a fourth run in the eighth as Jason Van Kooten doubled and scored on another two-base hit by Hector Gomez.
Davis singled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Anthony Jackson to complete the scoring in the top of the ninth.
Starting pitcher Brandon Durden was the victim of much of Midland's offensive show. Durden allowed nine hits and six runs, four earned, in four innings of work.
Reliever Chris Malone was touched for six hits and three runs in 1 1/3 innings.
Tulsa finished with 10 hits in the game, led by Beerer who was 3-4 with three singles. Davis and Mitchell picked up two hits each.
The Drillers now move to Frisco, Texas where they will begin a three-game series against the RoughRiders Saturday night. Cory Riordan (6-5, 4.07 ERA) will pitch the opener for Tulsa against Elizardo Ramirez (0-1, 3.86 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 7:00PM at Frisco's Dr Pepper Ballpark.
