Last Night's Game: Missions starter Ryan Rowland-Smith was roughed up for three runs in the first inning, bu the Missions take game 2 of the series against the Hooks as they score 4 runs in the 7th to win 6-4. Missions relievers Renee Cortez, Cesar Jimenez, and Sean Green held the Hooks hitless over the last four frames to give the offense the chance to make their comeback.
Today's Game : Jon Huber the Missions scheduled starter for today will miss his start due to being under the weather with strept throat. Replacing Huber on the hill will be Missions RHP Jeff Harris.
Starting Pitchers : Missions relief pitcher Jeff Harris gets the nod on the hill for the Missions tonight. Harris made one other spot start this season for the Missions on May 4 in Springfield. That day, Harris tossed 5.2 innings of work allowing four runs on five hits, but struck out a team high 11 Cardinal batters. Harris has a road ERA of 4.02, but in his last three outings, Harris has an ERA of only 1.17. Harris has kept opposing hitters to only a .210 average against him so far this season. Harris has faced the Hooks this season twice in relief giving up only two hits in four innings and earning two victories..... Facing Harris for Corpus Christi will be right hander Jason Hirsch. Hirsch started the season 4-0 before losing his last three starts for the Hooks. In those games Hirsh had an ERA of 6.89. Hirsch's only appearance against the Missions this season was on April 8 when he tossed 6.2 innings allowing only one earned run, but didn't figure in the decision. Hirsh is 2-1 this season at Whataburger field with an ERA of 5.74.
En Fuego: Jesus Guzman was on fire last night for the Missions going 4-5 with three RBI, a double and a homerun for the Missions. Quietly Guzman has raised his season average to .318 and is currently in the middle of a five game hit streak and has had hits in 18 of his last 19 games. In the month of May, Guzman is hitting .359 with 3 doubles, a triple, 4 homeruns and 11 RBI.
12 and Counting: Sean Green now has a Texas League high of 12 saves so far this season with an ERA of 3.26 and a record of 0-0. Green has not allowed a run in his last six outings picking up six straight saves.
